Last month DeAndre Yedlin was up against Neymar and made headlines, both for doing a decent job against the talented playmaker and being caught on video reminding the referee about the Brazilian’s embarrassing diving at the World Cup in the summer.

A booking and a 2-0 followed but Yedlin and is USA teammates put in a decent display.

This young USA team are putting themselves up against high level opponents to try and raise their level and on Thursday night they faced Colombia in Tampa, Florida.

With their stars on show, the visitors were always going to be tough opposition, and so it proved.

James Rodriguez putting Colombia ahead on 36 minutes, only for then the home side to show real spirit and in an inspired three minutes early in the second half actually fought back to take the lead, goals from Acosta and Wood.

However, retaliation quickly followed as Colombia stepped it up, with Bacca, Falcao and Borja scoring without reply.

DeAndre Yedlin played the full 90 minutes on what was a tough night for the USA defence, with Colombia dominating both possession and chances.

They now move on and play at home to Peru on Tuesday night, before Yedlin makes the journey back to Newcastle and hopefully faces Brighton in eight days time.
