2 former Newcastle stars make new list of World’s best paid French sportsmen

On the pitch, Moussa Sissoko might have had a nightmare move after Newcastle cashed £30m for him 18 months ago, but financially he is laughing.

Only 20 Premier League starts and only two in the last nine weeks for Spurs, the midfielder isn’t exactly a key player for Mauricio Pochettino.

However, L’Equipe have revealed a list of the 30 highest paid French sports people in the World and Moussa Sissoko is sitting pretty.

They have Sissoko at number 28, with earnings of €6.8m (£6m) in 2017, mostly made up of his wages from Tottenham.

However, he is some way behind the top earner, with Paul Pogba €22.2m (£19.5m), the midfielder said to be on £290,000 per week at Man Utd, as well as having a £4m a year contract with Adidas. L’Equipe also say that massive bonuses from Man U also helped, particularly winning the Europa League/qualifying for Champions League.

Another former Newcastle player to feature is Hatem Ben Arfa.

Used almost exclusively as a substitute by PSG last season, Hatem only started five Ligue 1 matches.

However, this season the winger has turned into a very expensive mistake for PSG, who have completely sidelined him.

Not included in a single squad this season, Ben Arfa still makes it into the list as the 21st highest earning French sportsperson, with earnings of €7.4m (£6.5m) in 2017.
