Alan Shearer reveals New Year’s wish – Mike Ashley to leave Newcastle United ASAP

Alan Shearer was pulling no punches as he looks forward to the year ahead.

He states that just like every other Newcastle fan, he is desperate for the club takeover to get done ASAP as it has dragged on long enough.

Alan Shearer says that ‘Mike Ashley has made it clear he wants to sell and doesn’t want to be at Newcastle’ and the sooner that this happens ‘the better for everyone connected to Newcastle’.

The seven points from the three ‘winnable’ games over the festive period has given manager and players a little bit of breathing space but just a quick look at the table tells you how tight it still is.

Newcastle have risen to 13th place and 22 points but they are only six points above bottom side Swansea who have a game in hand and four points ahead of third bottom West Ham who have two games in hand.

As Shearer points out, ‘A new owner needs to come in and give funds to Rafa Benitez to spend in January’.

With Swansea up next (in the Premier League), that is another crucial winnable match, but then the fixture start to pile up against clubs higher in the league, starting with another game against Manchester City.

Rafa and Newcastle United have given themselves a chance with these results but further help in January is essential for the challenges ahead.

Alan Shearer speaking to Coral:

“That (a club takeover) is what everyone hopes and if you’re a Newcastle fan, that is what needs to happen, because this has been dragging on for a while now.

“Mike Ashley has made it clear he wants to sell and doesn’t want to be at Newcastle, so the sooner that it happens the better for everyone connected to Newcastle.

“There’s no doubt about it, Mike Ashley needs to go and a new owner needs to come in, and give funds to Rafa Benitez to spend in January.

“I always expected it to be a long hard season…and that is what it is turning out to be.

“So Rafa Benitez needs to get players in, in January.”
