Achraf Lazaar ‘disappeared’ as Napoli win 6-0 – The ‘nightmare’ continues

Achraf Lazaar said that it was the ‘end of a nightmare’ after leaving Newcastle United for Benevento on a year’s loan.

However, after only 36 minutes of league action last season under Rafa Benitez, the Moroccan international may now wonder what this current season actually holds for him.

After playing the final 24 minutes of a 1-0 defeat to Torino eight days ago, Sunday saw Achraf Lazaar make his first start for the Serie A club.

After 32 minutes Benevento were 4-0 down and Napoli added two more in the second-half as they cruised to a very easy win, Benevento not having a single shot on target.

After four league games, Lazaar’s new club have no points and are rock bottom of the table, having conceded 10 goals and scoring only one.

The summer saw Benevento sign an incredible 19 players but it looks very much quantity over quality, the highest fee paid was £2,5m.

Coming up from Serie B via the play-offs, the Italian minnows made seven loan signings, including the Newcastle player, as well as 12 permanent deals.

Lazaar wondered why he hadn’t had more of a chance at Newcastle but the write up in Il Mattino was scathing.

Achraf Lazaar played left midfield/wing and the Italian newspaper said that at first he seemed lively and put in a few crosses (that came to nothing) but then he repeatedly failed to track his man (Hysaj) and ‘created problems’ for his teammates.

Finally, Lazaar ‘Then disappeared as the minutes went by’.

Il Mattino reporting on Achraf Lazaar after Napoli 6 Benevento 0, awarding him a mark of 4.5 out of 10:

“The Moroccan international (on loan from Newcastle) from Casablanca  made his first start after playing the last 24 minutes against Torino.

“At first he seemed lively and tried with some crosses, but nothing came of them.

“He barely tracked Hysaj which created problems for the left side of his team.

“Then disappeared as the minutes went by.”
