The 3 Newcastle goalkeepers fans would have liked to keep this season – Votes counted

Yesterday, we asked fans which three Newcastle goalkeepers they would have liked to have seen available to Rafa Benitez this season.

The poll prompted by the surprise news that Tim Krul’s loan deal at Brighton had now turned into a permanent move, meaning the Dutchman could now potentially face his old club on Sunday.

This summer saw Rafa with a surplus of Newcastle goalkeepers, five on the books and room for only three at the most.

In fact, the United boss made clear that he was aiming to bring in a new number one experienced goalkeeper and if he had succeeded, then surely at least three would have left.

As it happened, Mike Ashley helped block Rafa’s move for that new experienced (high wage…) keeper and in the end he kept Darlow, Elliot and Woodman, with Matz Sels and Tm Krul going out on loan.

At the minute it appears that Rob Elliot is clearly number one, with seemingly Freddie Woodman moving up to be number two, as he has been on the bench for the last three games (wins) and no news of Karl Darlow being on the injured list.

So on Wednesday the question was ‘Which 3 Newcastle goalkeepers would you have kept this season?’, voting as below:

49% Darlow, Elliot and Woodman

25% Elliot, Krul and Woodman

10% Darlow, Krul and Woodman

10% Darlow, Elliot and Krul

2% Elliot, Sels and Woodman

1% Krul, Sels and Woodman

1% Darlow, Sels and Woodman

1% Elliot, Krul and Sels

1% Darlow, Elliot and Sels

0% Darlow, Krul and Sels

So half the Newcastle fans would have gone with the same options Rafa went with.

As for Tim Krul, it is almost the same support for him.

In the options we gave above, he ends up getting 47% when adding up where he picked up votes, with the support for each individual being:

88% Elliot

88% Woodman

71% Darlow

47% Krul

6% Sels

Interesting to see the support for the promising Freddie Woodman.
