Newcastle are desperate to unload Jack Colback (amongst many others) and Steve Bruce is desperate to improve on a start of only one point from nine.

Second bottom of the Championship and the Villa boss is feeling the pressure, in his press conference on Friday, Steve Bruce was asked about a number of players he has been credited with interest in over the course of recent days.

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere was put to him first…”There is nothing in it.”

Then it was Jack Colback…”I don’t know where that one has come from.”

Jack Colback has been completely sidelined by Rafa Benitez and was even left out of the public training session on Thursday, along with another five players Rafa Benitez is desperate to get rid of.

Wages are seen as a major obstacle for either player, even if Bruce did/does want them, though the Villa boss admits his interest in young Southampton striker Sam Gallagher on loan:

“Every club in the Championship has been linked with him (Sam Gallagher), it is something we’re looking at us – he interests us.”

As for how long he might have left if Aston Villa continue to struggle, the plastic Geordie was on the defensive.

Steve Bruce:

“I don’t really ask the question (how long he has to turn it around) but I have had talks – they know the club has had instability for so long now.

“We’re three games in. The euphoria and nonsense that is written is quite embarrassing, but it’s the industry we’re in, three weeks in and it’s ‘off with his head’.

“All I can do is laugh about it and get on with the job – the pressure is big at this club.”

He`s no plastic Geordie, in fact he loves Nufc. ok he played for that lot under the guidance of the hated Jock but so did a lot of Geordies
he said he`d go for it in the last game of the season & he fielded a full strength team. They delivered the result we needed, that was good enough for me.

    • benton mag

He managed the inbreeds that for me makes him plastic and if we had not beat Barnsley we would not have won the championship give our team little bit of credit for being the best team last season in the championship

    • Geordiegiants

I went to school with his cousin, he told me never wanted to play for Newcastle, when he was at Norwich he said he would never play for us.

      • Jezza

I don’t know why my reply got removed so I will condense what I said. Essentially that Steve Bruce has come very close to joining Newcastle United twice. As a player and later as manager.

        • Geordiegiants

There is no doubt he was a good player, still he has never been a Geordie in my eyes, and when ever I see him I think dirty Mackem, i can’t stand the lot of them, imbreds. I must still have the mind of a kid as I never think the feeling will go away.

          • paul mclaughlan

The guy is from Daisy Hill and went to Benfield School. No matter who he played for/managed one thing is certain. He is 100% Geordie.

          • Geordiegiants

            100% Geordie Judas, yes.

          • Jezza

Not all Newcastle fans come from within the city boundaries of Newcastle Upon Tyne you know. I grew up a few milies south of the River Tyne and I have to say I’m not all that comfortable with comments about “dirty Mackem inbreds”.

          • Geordiegiants

So is that you saying your a Mackem?

          • Jezza

I am a Newcastle United supporter who grew up a few miles to the south of the River Tyne, that is what I am saying.

  • Steve Pearce

So why would Jack Colback want to go to an as yet winless Championship club run by a traitorous Geordie who is not plastic but something foul and extremely smelly – but that’s what toilets are for….

    • Jezza

A middling Championship club is about Colback’s level. As for those ridiculous comments about Steve Bruce simply because he managed Sunderland, does the same apply to the likes of Lee Clarke and Bob Stokoe then?

      • benton mag

        Yes

      • Steve Pearce

No- both were true legends and actually played for or managed Newcastle before going to Sunderland. As Steve Bruce achieved neither my opinion of him still stands!

        • benton mag

Lee Clark a true leg end REALLY we sold him when surely he was at his peak which was average and stokoe wasn’t anything special a bit Kevin Scott ish more mackem leg end than toon for me the line should never be crossed by local lads

          • Jezza

Let’s look at it from the other side then. Did you hate seeing players like Alan Kennedy, Chris Waddle and Barry Venison turning out for Newcastle then? Was the black and white shirt cheapened because those lads were wearing it?

          • benton mag

Kennedy and waddle soon left when they got better offers fair enough not leg end’s venison didn’t like him mackem but still supported any player who has been blessed to pull on the shirt but looking back at the time they looked decent but we’re average

        • Jezza

Hating somebody just because he went to Sunderland just seems very petty and small minded and doesn’t show Newcastle fans in a good light.

          • benton mag

I have been going to games by myself since I was 9 had 1st season ticket when I was 16 I’m now 54 still got a season ticket o class myself as old school loyal and cannot stand the bastard’s

          • Jezza

I’ve been going as long as you but don’t feel that way any more. I used to hate them when I was a kid in the but now I can’t be bothered with all that rivalry. I am just concerned about NUFC and not other clubs. Sunderland are just another team to me.

          • benton mag

Sound you may not agree with my hatred but I think you know were I’m coming from nice chatting to you toon toon

      • Albert Stubbins

Your right jezza. I suppose if he ever managed Newcastle he d be a proper geordie once again. Bruce is a geordie that did terribly at Sunderland. I for one am happy about that.

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I think Colbeck is a little better than a middling championship side and in fairness, Villa are better than a middling championship side.I do agree with you about Bruce, nice guy and wanted to join us a couple of times iirc

  • Paul Busby

One line about Jack, rest of the article irrelevant to toon fans.

    • MadMag83

Yeah, just another excuse to have a pop at Villa.
