Newcastle in talks to sign Matt Targett – Exclusive
Newcastle United are in talks with Southampton to try and land Matt Targett.
The Southampton left-back is set for a move to St James Park according to an exclusive carried by Teamtalk.
The 21 year signed a new five contract earlier in August but currently finds himself third choice at St Mary’s.
Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen are ahead of Matt Targett, who hasn’t even made the Premier League bench this season.
However, just because he is third choice at one of our ‘rivals’, don’t despair as he looks a decent player (a regular for England Under 21s).
Like so many others, Matt Targett made his Premier League debut for Southampton at a young age, just after turning 19 in the 2014/15 season.
He then made a decent 13 starts the next year (2015/16) but missed most of last (2016/17) season with hamstring problems, starting only five Premier League matches.
A number of other Premier League clubs are also said to be trying to land the left-back but just maybe this is one where Newcastle will be forced to push themselves to land the player.
Chancel Mbemba has had to play as an emergency left-back and yesterday the Chronicle reported that Paul Dummett is now set to be missing until November, so a left-back surely has to arrive today…
