Newcastle fans look forward to 4.15am League Cup draw

If progress is made on Wednesday night, Newcastle fans will have to be awake at 4.15am on Thursday morning if they want to see the third round League Cup draw.

United face Forest (Warning – get tickets now if you are interested, as they double in price on matchday) at St James Park in the second round.

A bit late obviously to report that English football has sold its soul but this takes things onto another, slightly comical, level.

Usually the cup draw would have taken place on Wednesday night around 10pm but to please the sponsors it has been dramatically shifted.

Carabao is a Thai energy sports drink and the latest name tagged onto the League Cup.

So the draw will be made at a convenient 11.15am in China (Beijing) but with a seven hour difference it means 4.15am on Thursday morning for people in the UK.

The 10pm Wednesday UK time, obviously making it a too inconvenient 5am in China…

This latest news on the draw follows a slapstick one for round two.

It took a handful of ties to be drawn before the organisers realised they had the home and away teams the wrong way around.

Whilst there was also bemusement as with the draw supposedly divided into northern teams playing against each other and southern sides doing the same, you somehow ended up with Newport having to travel from South Wales to play Leeds, then Midlands club Burton having to travel to South Wales to play Cardiff.

Personally, I just can’t see anything going wrong at 4.15am this Thursday morning….

Just hope Newcastle have got their first win on the board this season and have scored a few goals in the process.
