Newcastle 0 Tottenham 2 – Match ratings of all United players
Newcastle 0 Tottenham 2 – Sunday 13 August 1.30pm
Elliott 7 – Couldn’t do anything about the two goals, distribution was ok, didn’t do anything wrong.
Dummett – N/A (Not on long enough)
Clark 7 – Defensively did well and slotted in at left back but couldn’t offer anything going forward which was key in not being able to pose an attacking threat.
Lejeune 6 – Looked comfortable again for the short time that he was on. Big shame if we are going to lose him for a couple of weeks.
Manquillo 8 – Composed on the ball, doesn’t offer much going forward, but at the same time, doesn’t look as bad as the player Sunderland fans made out we had signed.
Shelvey 0 – Didn’t get on the ball at all, and the odd time he did, couldn’t make anything happen with a few stray passes.
In the second half, his actions were pathetic and no less than a disgrace. Should be fined his wages for at least the time he is missing.
Hayden 7 – Looked really good, athletic, strong, composed on the ball. Understandably struggled after the red card.
Ritchie 6 – Failed to offer much going forward, and will have to fight for his place this season, especially at home, with Atsu and maybe Murphy posing a more attacking threat.
Atsu 9 – Best attacking threat and looked like our only threat going forward.
Perez 6 – A few good touches but lacked threat or pace on the counter attack. Still crying out for a proper no.10.
Gayle 6 – Very much isolated up top but chased down and worked very hard. Unlucky not to win a penalty after a great run.
Lascelles 7 – Slotted in well, caught under the ball a few times but put himself about and gave Harry Kane a really tough time.
Mbemba 7 – Another one who did ok but not much to say!
Merino 7 – Played more passes and had more touches in 15 minutes than Shelvey did all game.
