Huddersfield fans were understandably a happy bunch as they reflected on Sunday’s 1-0 win over Newcastle.

The biggest ever football crowd at their stadium, having watched their team ensure it was maximum points from the opening two games.

As well as the pleasure from another win, there was also a cherry on the top for many Huddersfield fans with the fact it was Newcastle – still sore after defeat in March and NUFC going on to win the second tier.

Also a few sly digs aimed at Newcastle fans demanding/expecting too much…

Huddersfield fans commenting on Sunday via their top message board Down At The Mac:

‘We may still go down, but if we do, it won’t be behind Newcastle.’

‘Definitely not the best game against a poor team who sat back and dug in, obviously hoping to catch us on a break like last season.

6 points from 2 games, fantastic but we are going to have to improve quickly. Other teams with more experience in this league would have tore us a new one this afternoon. Mooy and Schindler, outstanding today.’

‘We played into Newcastle`s hands last season at home. Got caught on the break. Wagner a quick learner. 3 points. Wasn`t pretty at times. Come May could prove to be very valuable points.’

‘I get the feeling that against better sides we will get punished during them spells of nervy, ponderous possession that marred the 1st half.

But so many positives: the move and shot for Mooy’s tidy goal, Loewe’s inch perfect last ditch tackle, and the godlike Schindler on the ascendant. It is a great time to be a Town fan!’

‘You can’t play flat out all the time and I think those ponderous possession periods with Mooy dictating tempo are important to catch the the breath and get your shape back together.

We do that pretty well. It will be interesting to see how we do it against the better teams.’

‘Lossl made another top top save.’

‘The team seem to be spoilt for choice for players at the moment as nobody in our squad looks out of place in the Premier league.

Dream times made possible by top quality signings.’

‘Problem with Newcastle is they think they are better than they are .

A lot of wasted money on expensive players that could not be gelled into a premier league team

Wagner has spent wisely on hard working players who give all especially as team players.’

‘Very comfortable and aside from the Ritchie shot mid first half which was well tipped around the post had little to worry about.

Saw all the Geordie hordes in the Coach Escort heading back to the North East and if I’d been on there would have been severely disappointed in a seeming lack of effort from my team.

Not to take anything away from Town but thought they showed very little and on what I saw look like filling one of the bottom 3 slots.’

‘Great start to the season! Extraordinary times for Town fans. Not sure where it’ll end but I keep having to raise my expectations!’

Very weak performance from Newcastle, no urgency when a goal behind.

Rafa has it all to do with his threadbare squad  giggle probably not the smartest move to complain about lack of signings, doubt it motivated the ones that he wants to replace. Ritchie and Gayle to failing to score would have been disappointing. Shelvey was very quiet  ;)

I understood it was viewed as an opportunity to pick up some points (against little old Huddersfield).

worrying times indeed…

I thought Palace were better than Newcastle, but only just.’

‘Picked up a decent player in that Merino though. Looked quality and better in there than Shelvey tbh.’

‘Plenty for us to work on, we actually created any danger that Newcastle posed..

Winning with best moment of the match was sweet after last seasons game being decided by cheating and poor officials..

Gayle managed to do nothing but still had a couple of dives…’

‘6 out of 6 and no goals conceded, legendary stuff.

My only gripe today is that we didn’t score a few more and that we didn’the keep the ball as well as we should have at key times causing ourselves problems bit I guess we will learn that.

Superb move for the goal and we got stuck in and worked hard. I’m chuffed to bits, plenty of time to catch Man Utd lads don’t worry.’

‘For me Newcastle were too negative & looked a better side later on when tried to push on.’

‘I thought we just about deserved to win a tight game against a Newcastle side who actually attacked more than I thought they would. We started quite well and dominated the start of the first half, but Newcastle got to grips with our attacking players as the half wore on.

‘The goal was sheer class from Mooy and it’s a shame we couldn’t build on it and get a second. Newcastle did create chances, but our defence and goalkeeper are tough to beat these days. For the first time in my years watching Town I don’t  worry every time the ball goes in our box.

It wasn’t a perfect performance but it was a good one. We had good performances all over the pitch and we dealt with most of what Newcastle threw at us.

Every point at this level must be fought for, and we’ll play better teams than Palace and Newcastle, but 6 points out of 6 is a perfect start. This is as good as it gets being a Town fan. Long may it continue.’

‘Newcastle fans are an ungrateful bunch wanting Ashley to splash his cash.

Didn’t he give Bentitez £50m+ to get out of the Championship.

That’s in addition to all the money spent when they were in the Premier League on all those French frauds.’

‘Not the greatest game but a great win. Well done lads.’

‘Great result, 2 wins and a win against a possible relegation team?

‘And some revenge for last season……losing at home to Toon may have cost us the championship.’

  • Jezza

“Newcastle fans are an ungrateful bunch wanting Ashley to splash his cash. Didn’t he give Bentitez £50m+ to get out of the Championship.”

How many times do we have to hear that utter fallacy? Why can’t people grasp the facts?

    • Soldier

they seem to forget that Ashley has taken a respectable mid stream premiership side & turned it into a championship team without a hope in hell in the premiership

    • Milo79

Sunderland fans are very fond of quoting this one too…failing to take into account that we lost something like 12 first teamers – among them Townsend, Wijnaldum, Janmaat and Tiote – and the money Rafa spent was simply to restock the entire playing staff from scratch. Had it been £50m to further embellish an already strong side, then they might have a point.

      • Jezza

It’s not just that. The fact is that Ashley did not give Rafa that £50 million. It came out of the £90 million the club generated from player sales. Ashley did not give Rafa one penny to spend last summer, all he did was allow Rafa to re-invest half of what the club brought in from transfers.

        • Clarko

          Not true.

          Sold: £90.77m
          Spent: £57.38m
          Net spend: -£33.39m

However the Sissoko transfer is staggered, Newcastle only received £6.00m last season. (Chronicle)

          Actual net spend: -£7.89m

          (all values from transfermarkt)

          • Geordiegiants

So it’s a load of shyte then! As usual.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Brilliantly clever, I love the ironic mimicking of a simpleton that are within your posts.

          • Geordiegiants

Thanks for the compliment Fleckas 👍

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

          Errr, he did.

          • Jezza

            Did what?

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

            Lend money to the club

          • Jezza

He didn’t lend the club a penny. He took £40 million transfer profit out of the club.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

No, he didn’t, unless of course you can show otherwise.

The full figures are not going to be available until February 2018 but the statements suggest a further £12m was lent by Ashley or Mash to finance last season.

          • Jezza

Can you show where that £40 million transfer profit went? While we’re at it tell me what happened to the £100+ million you were adamant the club were going to spend on transfers this summer. You’ve gone all quiet about that one now but back in March, April and May you were insistently banging on about NUFC spending £100+ million in the summer transfer window. What have you got to say about that now eh?

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I’ve never suggested £100m+, in fact, in the thread where Shearer claimed something along those lines, I said he was talking tosh.

The £40m transfer ‘profit’ is likely to have gone to revenue and debtors. DR- Revenue, CR – trade / football debtors, this is on the basis of most reports suggesting the 3 big sales were all to be paid in instalments. You also have to allow for lower TV income.

Just out of interest, where were you under the impression this £40m went?

          • Jezza

You were adamant the club would spend £100+ million. You even wanted to make a bet on it.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Not £100m+, go and find the post

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

The post I find is betting you that we make more signings, we did, we signed the centre forward from Stoke. I’ll go double or quits that we sign another in the next 8 days.

  • Jimblag23

“Cost us the championship” 😂 Didn’t we finish 13 points ahead of them.
I have a feeling it’ll be hudds, NUFC and Brighton going straight back down.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Aye Jim lad there`s to many happy clappers think our squad can finish mid table, now that is being delusional

      • Leazes Ender

I think jim is a happy clapper, maybe he can be won over.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          😁😁 only time will tell

        • Jimblag23

Oi Leazes leave out me ol’ mucker.

        • Geordiegiants

          I think he has been!

  • Phil K

Er……why was my post removed ?

    • TheFandomMenace

      Maybe because you’re a jerk?

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

I see Burnley have signed Woods from Leeds for £15m, to be honest i`d prefer him to Gayle

    • Jezza

Add Burnley to that ever growing list.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

        😂😂😂😂😂

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

You really want us to buy Woods? Gayle is a far better finisher

  • Tony Mann

Quite reasonable, realistic comments. Watched it on telly, we are shocking.

  • anyobrien

Unrealistic fans and ungrateful…. They make me laugh….. Remember going there years ago no one there all rugby league fans….. Time will tell come May.

  • Paul Patterson

I think it’s about time some opposition fans showed some respect. The fans are not the problem at this club. Every club has it’s element of unrealistic fans, but if any fans criticise ours before looking at facts and a quick research into what Ashley has done to this club over 10 years will soon have them realising that no matter what problems they may have at their own club, at least their owners want some sort of success and have the clubs interest in mind. Ashley doesn’t.

    • X,WHY,Y MAN.

      Exactly !

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

We must all be stupid and living in an alternate universe because we have spent precious little in years, Had two relegations which were the fault of Ashley and his ridiculous appointments but we are too demanding and ungrateful !

I really do despair at how thick and stupid people have become when they cannot think for themselves.
This whole bash Newcastle United Football Club is more or less the brain child of people at Sky Sports and nothing more than a meme imo.
It has become nothing more than throwaway comments made by ill informed people who know absolutely nothing.
It is along the lines of Pantomime with Newcastle United’s fans cast as the villains in a rather tawdry scripted Soap Opera.

It started years ago with dafties Richard Keys and Andy Gray and has gathered a pace until it has now become the accepted norm that any idiot can latch onto.

    • Clarko

“we have spent precious little in years”

      14/15 spend: £40.52m
      15/16 spend: £97.43m
      16/17 spend: £57.38m
      17/18 spend: £38.07m

      • Jimblag23

But what has been the total in outgoing sales and television money?

Question 2 would be how can those figures be so precise when often we sign players for undisclosed fees.

        • Clarko

It is your job to find that information if you want to counter my argument (it would be a waste of time so I wouldn’t recommend it).

          • Dane Dawson

Clarko you idiot, why not tell the whole story instead of fees spent?
We’ve been ripped off and lied to for the best part of 10 years

          • Clarko

Again, no evidence to support your claim, you’re the idiot.

          • Dane Dawson

Ill take that, im an idiot. But do tell me how you and you alone know all undisclosed fees.
Anyone can claim this source or that source but which do you know is true, only you seem to know

          • Clarko

All the values are taken from the specialist website transfermarkt.

          • Dane Dawson

Which is about as accurate as football manager

          • Clarko

Again, I cannot debate with stupidity.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Clarko, these guys are determined to believe Tuttle tattle, they will not accept facts or try and learn for themselves.

          • Dane Dawson

            OBF… you have no idea

          • Geordiegiants

He just try’s to be controversial for the affect, it gets very tedious after a while. Clarko just copies and pastes anything that fits the bill. The pair of them are a joke most of the time.

          • Dane Dawson

Cheers for the warning buddy, i was starting to come to that conclusion. I’ll learn to ignore them from now on.

          • Geordiegiants

            Your most welcome 👍

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

A great we to broaden your mind.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I may be generalising but there is a chunk of people on here who don’t want to understand any other view than the clichés from the Mag writing team.

          • Dane Dawson

Clarko, ive looked at your “stats”, only on here to try to provoke argument.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

All income and figures are disclosed in the accounts.

          • Geordiegiants

There’s 2 idiots on here and if we held a vote on it, we all know who would get the most votes. Although I’m not entirely sure who would come first between you.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

            Debating with the mirror?

          • Clarko

You’re a stage 5 clinger, reply after reply after reply.

          • Geordiegiants

Ha ha ha lol 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Get in, rattled eh Clarko?

          • Clarko

Reply after reply after reply, you’re clearly frustrated, I have made you look silly time after time and it has hurt your ego to a point where you have to reply to every one of my comments to make yourself feel better, don’t worry, I hear it gets better with time.

          • Geordiegiants

Ha ha ha ha get in Clarko lad!

          • Clarko

            Rattled.

          • Geordiegiants

He he he, your what they call a belta in my world.

          • Geordiegiants

            What’s a stage 5 clinger Clarko?

          • Geordiegiants

What’s a stage five clinger Clarko?

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Not true, we’ve made a modest profit over the 10 years

          • Jimblag23

            I didn’t say I was arguing.
            Just asking some questions.

          • Clarko

Questions that would require time and effort to answer. The answers are down below, I would appreciate your opinion on the numbers.

          • Geordiegiants

Ha ha lol, what a tool.

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Don’t look at figures in isolation, look at the overall picture

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

        so… net spend is a thing…

        • Clarko

“we have spent precious little in years”

          Untrue.

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

since Ashley bought the club in 07 the net spend has been a shade under 35 million (c.34.4 million) pounds…. in 11 seasons! 3.125 million pounds per year for a supposedly premier league club is nothing short of embarrassing. He needs to leave or we all need to just resign ourselves to being a yo-yo club for the foreseeable future.

        • Clarko

          17/18: £38.07m spent, £26.10m net spend
          16/17: £57.38m spent, -£33.39m net spend
          15/16: £97.43m spent, £93.26m net spend
          14/15: £40.52m spent, £19.27m net spend
          13/14: £3.42m spent, -£19.86m net spend
          12/13: £28.77m spent, £15.45m net spend
          11/12: £23.45m spent, £9.01m net spend
          10/11: £12.58m spent, -£25.00m net spend
          09/10: £5.64m spent, -£18.71m net spend
          08/09: £31.66m spent, -£5.60m net spend
          07/08: £34.07m spent, £6.03m net spend

          Total spent: £372.99m
          Total net spend: £66.68m

That is a significant amount of money.

          (transfermarkt)

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

6 million a year is not a significant amount of money when teams are making 100 m pounds just for showing up 38 times…

          • Clarko

            Everton 07/08 – 17/18 (last 3 finishes: 11th, 11th, 7th)
            Total Spend: £423.83m
            Net Spend: £120.73m

            West Ham 07/08 – 17/18 (12th, 7th, 11th)
            Total Spend: £339.36m
            Net Spend: £104.82m

            Newcastle 07/08 – 17/18 (15th, 18th, 21st )
            Total Spend: £372.99m
            Net Spend: £66.68m

Teams have only been making “£100m” for the last two/three seasons. Newcastle were relegated in that time.

Total league money + Parachute payments 16/17
            Everton £127.80m
            West Ham £116.23m
            Newcastle £48.10m

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

spurs under levy will be in positive territory.

          • Geordiegiants

Yeh hey he’s back, good old stat boy, we have missed your copy and pasting.

          • Leazes Ender

It averages £6 million per year which is the clubs own money and a trifling sum.

How do other Premiership clubs compare?

The value of this squad is shockingly poor at 15th position.

          • Clarko

            £33.91m per year.

Again, continuing to use the “squad value” in your arguments makes you look stupid.

If you scroll down you can see the spending compared to Everton and West Ham. Newcastle compare very well with those clubs despite being recently relegated, losing a significant amount of tv money and finishing significantly lower in the league.

    • Tony Mann

You are so full of Doo Doo, its laughable! Go back to your alternate universe. We have spent tens of millions on X,WHY,Y MAN players. Purely down to abysmal management either at club or board level.
Apart from SBR we fell apart in 1996.

      • X,WHY,Y MAN.

So how am I full of Doo Doo ?
So there hasn’t been an agenda for years to bash Newcastle United fans through Sky Sports TV ?
If you cannot see that then you are off your bin pal !
You can come along with your daft childish insults which wasn’t much cop in reality which is “Laughable” !

        • Tony Mann

Just give up – what agenda are you on about – we’ve been rubbish for years and we dont need Sky to tell us that. Its the SBR era that last provided any proper enjoyment. Nowt to do with Sky ( though I do agree they are a tawdry (good word) outfit. Get off your high horse.

        • Tony Mann

Tried to reply to this on two occasions. Both responses were said to be ‘spam’ which they were not. Is this anything to do with you?

          • X,WHY,Y MAN.

No, Certainly not, I wouldn’t do that.

  • Grahame Johnson

Before Rafa came for 3 seasons the walk up to the gallowgate actually felt like a walk up to the gallows at times, its hard being a toon fan, on Sunday a mate of mine said the police where on form regards moving and stopping fans from having a drink and wander around Huddersfield, West Ham of all clubs will be able to drink and enjoy the toon next week as all fans will find out a rare visit to Huddersfield comes with restrictions

  • Albert Stubbins

    What a bunch of t***s

  • Cuh

“Rafa has it all to do with his threadbare squad giggle probably not the smartest move to complain about lack of signings, doubt it motivated the ones that he wants to replace.”

  • Stephen

I’m just a bit disappointed our fans didn’t seem to make any noise. In the second
half I couldn’t hear a peep out of them.
