Bobby Moncur playing it for laughs in support of Mike Ashley at St James Park tonight

Whilst Mike Ashley has tried to belittle and take down Newcastle United legends such as Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer, other respected former players have been happy to go along with our glorious owner…

Step forward Peter Beardsley and Bobby Moncur.

Two much loved one-time star players, happy to speak out on Ashley’s behalf and prop up his disgraceful regime.

Bobby Moncur is one of only two ‘board’ members, alongside Lee Charnley.

The ‘board’ element being a farce of course, as shown up by the meeting last weekend, when Rafa Benitez was reportedly confronted by Charnley and Ashley’s other main minions – PR chief Keith Bishop and Justin Barnes, one of Mike Ashley’s inner circle claimed to have been brought in above Charnley to run the club behind the scenes (out of the public eye). Rafa confronted and told to ‘shut up’ and stop moaning about lack of transfers’.

What are the likes of Bobby Moncur doing? Here are a few of his quotes…

Bobby Moncur – March 2015:

“I have seen John Carver at close hand working with the players at Newcastle United and I have to say it’s impressive to see.”

Bobby Moncur – June 2015:

“One of the things which spurred me on was Mike Ashley doing his interview,  I have spoken to people who are really looking forward to it (new season – Newcastle were relegated) because he made a statement and now he has got to back that up.

“A lot of the supporters are buoyed up and looking forward to next season. At the end of last season it was a bit doom and gloom and now that Mike has come out and changed things around a little bit with a new coach (McClaren), a new board (McClaren, Carr, Charnley, Bobby Moncur!), people are looking forward to it.”

Bobby Moncur – June 2015:

“The starting point for that final day was the owner going on TV. That was great. All the (corporate) lounges, everything stopped when he went on the telly. I think that was great, even last week I was speaking to people saying it’s given them a lift.

“People have this image of Mike Ashley but I’m fortunate that when I go to away games I sometimes speak to him, he is nothing like he is painted to be.

“He (Ashley) is quite a funny bloke, honest and up front, he has got a passion, I know people say he has got no passion for the club but he has.

“The fact he went on TV and said he’s got a passion for the club and he wants success was good. I have known that for some time but the problem you have is when you try to tell people who don’t know what he’s like, it’s hard to convince them.

“If you were sat next to Mike Ashley he is down to earth and a good bloke…if I didn’t think that was the case, I wouldn’t go on the board.”

Now on deadline day, Bobby Moncur has been put up to do a talk-in at Newcastle United’s Nine Bar at St James Park.

One of Newcastle United ‘s two ‘directors’, doing a talk-in on club premises during the final hours of this disastrous transfer window.

Surely this is no coincidence in terms of timing?

The doors open at 7pm and just what will Bobby Moncur say in defence of his boss and his disgraceful undermining of Rafa Benitez (just like Keegan and Shearer before him)?

Nine Bar announce the Bobby Moncur talk-in – Early August:

‘NINE BAR – AN EVENING WITH A LIVING LEGEND

Newcastle United’s legendary Fairs Cup-winning captain Bob Moncur will be the special guest at the club’s next monthly ‘question and answer’ evening at St. James’ Park.

The event takes place at NINE Sports Bar & Lounge on 31st August.’

Nine Bar confirming earlier today (31 August) it is still going ahead:

‘Come to Nine tonight and listen to the legendary Fairs Cup winning captain Bob Moncur plus sample some of our delicious chicken wings free of charge!’

Anybody going tonight, would love to know what Bobby Moncur says about Mike Ashley, Rafa Benitez, and this transfer window…
