Leeds fans have been reacting to the signing of Vurnon Anita.

From a Newcastle supporter perspective, it was always going to be interesting seeing where the Dutchman ended up and at what level of football.

Having been released by Newcastle, Anita was confirmed as a Leeds player on Thursday afternoon.

So how have the Leeds fans reacted to the news?

Leeds fans comments via MOT Forum and LUFC Talk:

‘Big name signing Anita, good luck to the boy.

My concern is say well into season, Jan/ Feb, will he not only up his performances but get stuck in and play as many games as possible to help put some extra drive into the very last kick.

Welcome all the same, 10-12 goals off him for starters if you please.’

‘Only scored 7 goals in 242 appearances for Ajax/Newcastle.’

‘Seems to be having good things said about him by geordies, seems like a very decent signing.’

‘Appears to be a full back now, played all last season for Newcastle at right back and did very well. Also played at left back for Ajax for a lot of his time there.

So hopefully has come in to provide Ayling or Berardi with some very strong competition, I say that because I thought he was awful for Newcastle when he played as a defensive midfielder and nowhere near the quality of Vieira or Bridcutt.’

‘He played at full back numerous times last year only due to injuries.

He is first and foremost a holding midfielder but its good to have someone with versatility.

Excellent signing, given its a free transfer (wages will be high I expect but even so) and he is obviously very familiar with the championship so can hit the ground running.’

‘Was really good a couple of seasons ago, hopefully he can replicate that.’

‘Very happy with that. PL, Champions League experience, over 100 games for Ajax and has promotion experience.’

‘This is a cracking signing.

He’s versatile – midfield, RB and has played LB. Got 3 goals and loads of assists last season (ED: Vurnon actually scored no goals and got one assist in Championship).

Also is coming from a club that was under real pressure from a very large fan base and media for promotion and it obviously didn’t impact on him. He should be able to manage Elland Road.

Finally, he’s the right age……. I bet there’s more, just can’t think of it now!’

‘My current go to for stats (www.whoscored.com) has Anita listed as 20th most effective player for Newcastle last season. 6.64 out of 10 average.’

‘Very pleased with that one. Almost suspiciously pleased if I’m honest. Slightly unsure why he was deemed surplus to requirements at Newcastle by the end of the season.

He was on an estimated £35k p/w at Newcastle, so with this being a free transfer I would imagine he has just become our highest paid player.’

‘Anita, watch him play before I decide if he’s any good or not.’
