Aleksandar Mitrovic offered to French club for £16m – Report

Wednesday morning have seen claims that Aleksandar Mitrovic has been offered to Lyon.

Foot Mercato report that their information is that Newcastle have given the Ligue 1 club a £16m valuation on the Serbian striker.

Lyon have lost a host of players, with Mathieu Valbuena, Corentin Tolisso, Maxime Gonalons, Alexandre Lacazette and Christophe Jallet all leaving and the club banking around £90m.

Lacazette of course has left a big hole in the French club’s forward line after joining Arsenal and with £8m Bertrand Traore their biggest incoming transfer so far this summer, Lyon clearly have more than enough money to finance such a deal for Mitrovic.

Whether he fits their needs/wants is another question, with Lacazette scoring over 90 goals for Lyon in the past three years, they are desperate for quality to replace him.

Mitrovic made only 11 Championship starts for Newcastle last season, scoring four goals, but for his country he continues to be first choice and over the last year has averaged a goal a game at international level.

It appears clear that Rafa Benitez doesn’t see a future for the Serbian striker at Newcastle and for the first time last month, Newcastle’s number 45 admitted that he may well leave this summer, if the right offer for both player and NUFC comes in.

Rafa Benitez will be desperate to add at least one more striker to his squad and moving out Mitrovic could be a big help in making that happen.

12 June 2017 – Aleksandar Mitrovic:

“I’m very happy to help Newcastle back to the Premier League because that’s where the club deserves to be.

“I heard something about other clubs but for now I just want to rest. I need to prepare for next season.

“If some good offers for me – which are also good for the club – come in for me over the summer, then we will speak about it.

“If it doesn’t happen then I’m still a Newcastle United player, I have three years on my contract.

“So we have to speak to the club, to the manager and we will see.

“I’m happy there.

“We have a good team there and we are back in the Premier League but we have to see.”
