Recent days had seen seemingly realistic Newcastle transfers in the offing.

Rather than the usual players playing in weaker foreign leagues and apparently names picked at random, a series of links were published over the weekend suggesting players currently with English clubs were being targeted.

These included players with both Premier League and Championship clubs, as well as free agents and loan deals – a combination of the type of potential signings that most Newcastle fans envisaged would be likely this summer.

However, like some kind of Newcastle transfers grim reaper, one longstanding journalist covering NUFC has reported that four of these recent suggested deals are definitely not happening, unless Newcastle radically change position.

Craig Hope of The Mail says that he understands that a bid for Jacob Murphy HAS been made but that Norwich have dismissed the £8m offer out of hand and that the player isn’t for sale. Having scored nine goals and grabbed six assists last season, little wonder the Canaries aren’t willing to trade on the 22 year old at that price.

Wingers were in fashion in terms of recent transfer links but in three cases the man from The Mail says they aren’t happening.

Former Manchester City player Jesus Navas is now a free agent but with Newcastle fans asking whether stories of his imminent arrival were true, Craig Hope says there is ‘no chance’ and the Spanish international is definitely returning to La Liga.

The 21 year Adama Traore is another dead end where Newcastle are concerned, with The Mail journalist saying Newcastle aren’t willing to meet Middlesbrough’s valuation, whilst he also says a loan deal for Liverpool’s young winger Sheyi Ojo won’t be happening – once again because of the financial demands of the other club.

Not that Ojo has achieved anything of note as yet but if Rafa Benitez did think the player had something to offer, then not being able to get a basic loan like this over the line is a bit worrying to say the least.

In the past The Mail’s Craig Hope has been pretty good with his information on what is happening on and off the pitch, so not the best news on a Monday ahead of what could be another long week in terms of Newcastle transfers and any activity.

Again taking his comments at face value, no doubt there will be many of you thinking that you don’t really care whether any or all of these four don’t sign.

However, it is more the background message, that Newcastle are possibly not prepared to pay the market rate on players this summer.

Yes prices are going haywire but that is today’s reality, at some time you have to compete with the other clubs to bring in credible signings.

Craig Hope of The Mail via his Twitter account:

“Understand Newcastle United made an £8m bid for Jacob Murphy but Norwich have said he is not for sale. Sources say unlikely to be progress.

“NUFC have also asked about Adama Traore but Boro’s valuation of winger has all but put an end to the interest.

“And NUFC will not be revisiting loan move for Sheyi Ojo as LFC demands for deal are too high.

“And for those asking about Jesus Navas – no chance. He was mentioned a while back but accepted he’s going back to Spain now.”

        that, i know to well

I reckon if we’d signed any of these players the “experts” on here would’ve had a meltdown, we don’t look to be signing any of these players and guess what, the “experts” on here are having a meltdown.

    • Damon Horner

Thought the same when reading. You just need to look at the Lejeune deal to know this.

Murphy for £8mil? “underwhelming” and “overrated Championship rubbish” would be the message.

      • Stephen Paylor

Murphy would be a bargain at 8 million, did you see him destroy us last year

        • Damon Horner

Don’t have an issue with the signing mate, that’s the truth.

I just believe that the failure of the signing leads to boardroom criticism but had he signed then he’d tick a few boxes I’ve seen get mentioned as to why players get considered a poor signing so he’d not have been given the chance he deserved.

  • Thanks Rafa

    Rafa, save yourself

  • Lord

People seem to overlook that we have Saivet, De Jong and Riviere back from loan and they are just like new signings.

    • Damon Horner

Maybe it’s Sammy to the rescue!

So it looks like we are not going to sign anyone and M.A is full of s###.
Just when i thought he was getting with the program it all goes pearshaped and rafa will walk leaving the toon right in the smelly stuff

Yeah, and everybody’s stuck with their season tickets. Good old Mike’s looking like he’s left us high and dry again. Psstaker extraordinaire,he is.

Nothing new there. It’s been the same every transfer window since Ashley took over.

  • Waxi

Up to now i was ok with the amount of time still left in this transfer window but as the warm ups are about to KO on Friday Chumley needs to pull his finger out and get a move on. Why are we bidding for players like Traore from the Boro who has been relegated twice. Murphy from Norwich ffs. It is starting to look a bit glum if that is what we are looking at.

    • Desree

At least when Pardew was boss we were given bait like Lacazette, aubameyang etc. Now we have Jacob Murphy

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

That’s because we had a really good scout but some didn’t like it.

        • HarryHype59

Mitrovic at 16m and Thauvin at 15m would indicate Carr had lost his “Mojo” well before he left by “mutual content”. His legacy at present is a squad full of toxic assets draining the wage bill.

  • Peter Stabler

I know what – let’s all run around in little circles pulling at our hair – shouting “Don’t Panic, don’t Panic”
    Get a grip!

    • Leicester Mag

Most have had 10 years to get a grip of what life under Ashley is like and can guess the odds it will all be ok.

      • Peter Stabler

Fair comment but just keep calm and wait and see, it’s going to be short of what we want – we are fans, but I understand that Rafa is here for a project and i want to enjoy it.

  • TheFatController

No club would bid for player, least of all an Ashley club, without enquiring first if he was for sale, so that norwich story can’t be true as it’s being told

Nothing wrong with enquiring about traore, nothing wrong with moving onto other targets if he is above Rafa’s valuation

Nothing wrong with enquiring for Navas but not sure why it’s Mike Ashley and Charnley’s fault navas is holding out for a Spanish club? Maybe threaten to kneecap him rather than offering a salary ?

norhing wrong with wanting loan players unless the club want a huge fee for the loan

There’ll be something wrong in 6 weeks if we don’t land players at fair prices but to read press articles and assume we should be paying over the odds for players to make negative fans happy is not really how other clubs operate, so why should we?

It’s as if we’re the only club who miss out, and obviously champions Chelsea never miss out on someone like lukaku… oh!

    • Damon Horner

Agreed and quite frankly the attitude to the transfer market for me is showing a lack of respect to a group of players who un balance did well for us last season. If good options are there granted we should go for it but most of our current group in isolation have earned their chance.

  • HarryHype59

Loftus Cheek is off to Palace on loan according to the Mail.

  • brian fleck

how come one minute there is plenty of cash and we pay tranferr fees upfront then all of a sudden there is no money and we want to pay on the never never

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

We were relegated & of course, it’s all paper talk.

    • HarryHype59

Loss of income due to relegation and a bench full of toxic assets who are unsellable due to high wages and long term contracts. The Sissoko fee was also paid in installments.

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

        You are paying attention!

        • HarryHype59

In short, all due to mismanagement by the power drinker and his minions. Have you finally grasped he is a millstone around the clubs neck?

      • Geordiegiants

All incoming transfers are paid on tick.

        • HarryHype59

Ashley used to pay up front! If he gave Rafa a 40m overdraft until the end of the season to buy players on a three year deal the team could be improved significantly.

  • Desree

So we have been down this path before. When Nufc have an intent to buy, business gets done early, exception being 2015 as we didn’t have a manager until July.
I would be happy with Loic Remy on loan right now.
Regardless of prices, we have a squad that is not strong enough for the PL. So if fatty wants another relegation then so be it. What concerns me is that not a single target is being quoted above £10m.
Could Ashley be askibg for the loan back in anticipation of a sale?

    • HarryHype59

The only chance for this club to achieve its potential is for the Fat lad to sell up!

  • Desree

    Secret id of Bobbi fleckman
    A) Bob Moncur
    B) Lee Charnley
    C) Alan Carr

    • Stephen Paylor

Bobbi’s posts are fairly balanced in my opinion.

      • Desree

Balanced would be sitting on the fence. Not always defending Mike Ashley and his minions. Fair play, when it comes to finances and business Bobbi is one of the few logical contributors. Communism seems rife amongst the mag readership

        • Geordiegiants

Bobbi makes it all up. He says the books are all there to read and we can find out anything we want. Ask him how much we get per replica strip, or for our advertising or anything else. He hasn’t got a clue.

          • Desree

Do privately held businesses make their accounts public? There is a reason Rangers fans are dancin in the streets. Even though they have won nothing and have been dumper out of Europe.

      • Geordiegiants

You are mad, mad I say! Bobbi is a fruit cake!

    • Geordiegiants

I just think Bobbi is barking!

  • Desree

Mike Ashley loves Newcastle so much that he does not want us to win a cup or qualify for the champions league? Discuss

  • Biggs Darklighter

Gibbs & Murphy should be well within our budget.

    Charnley is bloody useless

  • Paul Busby

Apparently Arnautovic put in a trasfer request. West Ham been mentioned but would love for us to at least have a crack at it.
