At the age of 35, Shola Ameobi has signed another deal which will see him extend his playing career.
Having spoken in the past of wanting to go into coaching/management, that will be further delayed as the former Newcastle player has signed a new contract with Notts County.
Arriving as a free agent in February, Shola Ameobi helped former Newcastle teammates Kevin Nolan (Manager) and Alan Smith (player) to drag the club away from what looked like certain relegation, going on a run that was more in line with promotion if continued over the course of the season.
Last month saw confirmation that Newcastle United would finally be an Ameobi free zone after countless years of having at least one of the brothers at St James Park.
Sammy Ameobi sees his contract run out at the end of June and NUFC confirmed it wouldn’t be renewed.
No news yet on a new club for Sammy but Bolton look a likely destination just so long as the player’s wage demands aren’t too excessive.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club so far and I’m excited for what next season holds in store.
“I’ve been taken aback by the support of the fans, who have welcomed me into their club with open arms, and I’m determined to help make the 2017-18 campaign an enjoyable and successful one for them.”
“Not only did Shola make a huge impact on the pitch and in the dressing room, but he is also a big hit with our supporters.
“When a player of the quality and experience of Shola Ameobi decides he wants to stay, it shows you are doing something right as a football club.
“It’s great that the players have bought into what we want to try and do here.
“We now have the rest of the summer to look at ways we can develop and improve the squad.”
