The transfer stories are coming thick and fast on Thursday, with claims now that Newcastle United have made an offer for Ismaila Sarr.

The winger has made a big impression in his first season of European football, joining Metz last summer from domestic football in Senegal.

Only turning 19 this February, as an 18 year old Ismaila Sarr went straight into first team action at the start of last (2016/17) season, ending up making 31 Ligue 1 appearances – 20 places in the starting eleven and 11 off the bench.

His impact could have been even more in his first Ligue 1 season if he hadn’t been called up for the African Cup of Nations, making three appearances in the finals in January/February despite still being only 18 years old at the time.

On the other side of the Channel, France Football claim that their information is that Newcastle have offered 12m euros (approx £10.5m) plus future payments based on hitting certain targets.

However, they also say that Metz look to be holding out for more and haven’t accepted the Newcastle offer, wanting at least 15m euros (around £13m) for their star asset.

A number of clubs have also registered their interest according to France Football, including Ligue 1 side Lille and Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Watford.

Earlier on Thursday, reports from Italy claimed that Pepe Reina had agreed personal terms with Newcastle but had still to decide whether to make the move, as he was wondering whether to remain at Napoli for at least one more season.

The new Sadio Mané allegedly ?

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

it’s always allegedly with the French

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

apart from the likes of Monaco & PSG it`s a shyte league with stars like Cabella & Thauvan
the French clubs have shafted us for years,
    Mon Dieu, stay well clear
this is another one that stinks of Carr

    • Paul Smith

It wouldn’t happen without Benitez agreeing and Benitez wouldn’t agree if he didn’t want him… The days of blaming Carr for any signing that doesn’t work out are over.

  • NUFCDan

With 15 goals and 9 assists the best winger in Ligue 1 last year outside the big 2 of PSG and Monaco was Thauvin. Says a lot about the quality of the French League and even more about our clubs recruitment shambles where unwanted players are bought and never given a fair run of games.

    • MadMag83

All part of Charnley and Carr’s tax swindle with the agents. Get Carr scouting elsewhere, preferably North Korea.

To be fair, both Cabella and Thauvin suffered under the managers they had and neither was really given a chance. Much like Ben Arfa before them they were flair players being asked to play a more restricted defensive role. Once they were not working (think there was a lot of “Cabaye hit the ground runnign why can’t you” going on too) then their French huffiness came out and it was doomed…more about mis-management of players, I always thought Thauvin had a bit of something about him but was never really allowed to settle or the time to adapt.

Stay away from the French League! £13m for an 18 year old playing in a weak league, robbery. Stinks of Carr this one.

    • HarryHype59

You know it and so does everyone else, except the people running this club.

  • Damon Horner

Poor lad would never be given the chance anyway for being French based by the looks of it.

  • HarryHype59

This has got Carr’s stamp on it. The club is still making the same mistakes in the so called Raffalution.

    • Damon Horner

what mistakes has the club made? This isn’t a real story at the moment.

      • HarryHype59

What mistakes has the club made? How long do you have? The recruitment policy at this club has been poor especially with regards to French players. Paying this fee for an eighteen year old from a week league is pure French folly.
