In an official club statement on Monday afternoon, Newcastle United confirmed the launch of the new Newcastle home shirt.

A leaked image of Dwight Gayle wearing the new shirt, which had been circulated on Monday morning, proved to be the real deal.

As part of the push for the new shirt, a video has also appeared to celebrate the 125 year Newcastle home shirt design launch, watch it here.

Newcastle United official statement – Monday 15 May 2017:

Newcastle United has revealed its new 2017/18 PUMA home kit ahead of the club’s 125th anniversary season.

Featuring a new commemorative crest to honour the club’s milestone year, the kit also features the Magpies’ new sponsor – FUN88 – for the very first time.

The Far Eastern gaming company has agreed a three-year deal with the club and will feature on all adult shirts and training wear.

The new home kit and sponsor were revealed in a special video, with some of the Magpies’ legendary former players teaming up with members of the current first team for a photo shoot.

PUMA has created a classic version of the club’s famous black and white stripes for 2017/18, adding black shorts and black socks with a white turnover – a familiar look to some iconic home strips over the years.

The club has also selected red numbers and lettering on the reverse of the shirt for its anniversary campaign, a nod to the style worn by many of the club’s greatest ever players and teams over the years.

Lee Charnley, managing director at Newcastle United, said: “We have worked closely with PUMA to deliver a design that celebrates our history.

“The anniversary crest, simplicity of the design and the red numbers on the back of the shirt are just small touches that make it a special kit for a milestone season.”

Newcastle United’s 2017/18 PUMA home kit will go on sale at the stadium store and nufcdirect.com from Thursday 15th June. The club’s away and third kits will be officially revealed on club channels this summer.

As part of gambling regulations, junior kits will remain unbranded.’

Here’s a question for yo Graham as you have repeated the assertion that this is United’s 125th year and not its 136th….

When we’re Manchester United formed 1878 or 1902?….. the name didn’t exist in the victorian period yet they assert the foundation as Newton Heath.

I maintain that Hall, The Magpie Group Inc Malcolm Dix, and the Evening chronicle conspired to change history to suit themselves because of the anniversary of the name change to United!

So when were Manure formed then Graham?

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

They celebrated the centenary in 2002 although they also had a mini celebration in 1978.

NUFC was a bit different as the merger was supposed to happen before West’s financial demise and East took over West’s ground and the anticipated new name ‘united’ being a united East and West went ahead.

As NUFC, we’ve been about 125 years.

125 Years as United and 11 as East End. and a couple as Rosewood as well…. So we are either 10 years older than Manure or 3 years younger…. if you apply the same set of rules.

agree. our continuous history started in 1881 in the east end stanley CC etc It were the same club just with a few name changes on a few cane of grounds along the way. Te legalities probably prove otherwise but i am happy we can trace our continuous beginning to well before our current name took hold

          • Leazes Ender

Yes it was Stanley Street CC … I have it in the back of my mind as Rosewood.

Yeah great, other than the money, who cares ? It’s not the disgrace of the wonga shirt but if you don’t like it don’t buy it,I’ll still be wearing my blue star shirt and don’t feel left out, your shirt says a lot more about your era (or your expanding waist line)n how long you have been here rather than putting money in Sports Direct pocket.

We got rid of the loan shark, and replaced it with a gambling house. Looks OK, but I will be keeping my old Shearer 9 with the brown ale coaster on the front. Cheers!
