Shola Ameobi has experienced a new lease of life since joining Notts County.

The former Newcastle striker arriving  in the new year with the club in a desperate state, favourites to drop out of the league.

Signed as a free agent by former NUFC teammate Kevin Nolan, Shola Ameobi has scored four goals as Notts County have shown promotion form since reuniting, with the club finishing the season in a comfortable mid-table spot.

However, as well as the goals, Kevin Nolan has gone out of his way in a series of interviews to praise the leadership Shola has shown the younger players at the club.

The Notts County Manager has now come to the difficult part of the year and announced his decisions on who is being offered new deals and who is going to be released.

With the Nottingham Post reporting that Kevin Nolan has confirmed that despite turning 36 this coming October, Shola Ameobi is one of these who has been offered a new contract.

Elsewhere in the squad there are mixed fortunes for two other former Newcastle players.

Alan Smith has been in a player/coach role this past season and he has also being offered a new deal, though one-time NUFC forward Adam Campbell has been released.

Kevin Nolan:

“This is the toughest time of the season for a manager and I haven’t enjoyed it one bit.

“I am, however, confident that we have made the right decisions and put fair offers on the table.

It’s never nice to see lads go but it’s my responsibility to put what I think are the correct foundations in place for next season.

“I can’t fault the efforts of any of the players since I walked through the door and we wish those who are moving on all the best.”
