Rafa Benitez is staying at Newcastle United!

An official club statement released on Wednesday teatime has confirmed the news.

Positive quotes included from both Rafa Benitez and Mike Ashley.

After Tuesday’s meeting between owner and manager, great to have clarification so quick.

Whilst we wait to see exactly what it amounts to, Mike Ashley’s statement couldn’t appear more positive (at least at face value anyway):

“I’ve confirmed to Rafa Benitez he can have every last penny the club generates through promotion, player sales & other means”

What we are all interested in though is whether Rafa Benitez is happy with what’s been discussed and he has uplifting words as well:

“I’m pleased with how the meeting went and the positive approach we are all taking together to build on what we have started this season.”

Newcastle United Official Statement:

‘Newcastle United can confirm that a meeting has taken place between the club’s owner, Mike Ashley, managing director Lee Charnley, and manager Rafa Benítez.

It was agreed by all parties that the meeting was very positive and constructive.

Mike again congratulated Rafa and his team on gaining promotion to the Premier League as champions.

Plans for next season were discussed, including the purchase and loan of players to add to the squad in readiness for the Premier League season.

Speaking after the meeting, Mike Ashley said: “I’ve confirmed to Rafa and Lee that they can have every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season.”

Manager Rafa Benítez added: “I’m pleased with how the meeting went and the positive approach we are all taking together to build on what we have started this season.

“There will be challenges ahead of course, the summer will not be easy, but the hard work has been going on for some time and we can now continue positively with the development of the squad ahead of the start of the new season.

“I wish fans an enjoyable summer!”

  • Al Devon

What the club generates through player sales cant be that much. Surely Ashley is gonna help out with a few quid?

    • Leazes Ender

      never has…. never will…. he’s a Spurs fan, who doesn’t like Geordies.

  • Stephen West

    ………..by any other means!!!!

  • Paul Patterson

    Great news all round.

    • Leazes Ender

No its pretty bad news actually it means that Rafa has sold his soul

  • Biggs Darklighter

    Brilliant!

Does that mean we get the profit and player sales from the end of last season??

    • TG

Im hoping thats what he meant. 50mil straight off. Its going to be an interesting summer if thats included

      • Leazes Ender

How many Amiobi’s can you get for £50m these days?

  • Andy Mac

What was that phrase that came out when Llambias was around ? “No significant new investment” or whatever it was? This sounds equally obscure.

“Every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season”

Promotion gave us £7m ? Player sales from when ? Other means ?????

  • HappyToons

Should be an interesting summer,… how Rafa spends the 300k he gets for Wor Sammy.

Cheer up, there’s plenty of decent quality players in the Championship worth signing. Plenty contacts Rafa will have in Italy and Spain and Chelsea. Plenty of Premiership players who aren’t going to the top 6 who will come to us. We aren’t that far behind Everton with a few decent signings, so why isn’t 8th not something to aim for and settle for a top ten next year.

  • Toon fan

Whatever the total transfer funds are has obviously satisfied Rafa. That’s good enough for me.

    • Leazes Ender

Get yerself back to mackem land you snide.

  • Mayor Vaughn

“other means” new shirt sponsorship etc.
If Rafa didn’t like what he was told he would’ve walked. That’ll do for me.

  • tony brotherton

Rafa knows what he wants and needs for the club to thrive in the Premiership and not just survive ! i am sure if he didn’t like what he had heard from the owner he would have said thank you and goodbye he is not going to waste his time with anyone who is wasting his . Lets see what he does and FFS can we get positive on this board for a change. Moving in the right direction from Rafa is good enough for me…

  • NUFCLX

I think we only get the parachute payment this year so the big TV money will not be until the end of next season. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I googled it and cannot find any actual dates of payments.

    • Andy Mac

Yup the parachute payment, in lieu of PL prize money is paid for a mayimum of three seasons. We get £40m this season plus the EFL money, such as it is, and any other income generated by the club.

  • Paul Busby

    I’m cautiously happy.
Such an ominous and calculated statement from Cashley, but at the Same time Rafa seems satisfied.
I suspect, and this is obviously speculation, the agreement between them walks down the line of building Newcastle back up to an established EPL team without taking huge monetary risks, rather than throwing as much money as possible at the issue in the hope that it works.

    • tony brotherton

Rafa will have outlined what is required from a footballing perspective to remain, achieve and develop in the EPL. i am sure that Ashley now trusts Rafa with Whatever resources he thinks he needs to do the job he has to do. I am encouraged that Rafa appears to have won the day here and will continue to remake the team which will be fit for purpose, i.e. fit for the EPL rather than the championship. as he says a lot of work to do . it takes time

  • Lord

Suitably vague on the cash but clear on the statement from Rafa. That’ll do me for a few weeks.

What can we all moan about next?

    • Leazes Ender

      ……Slice of Sh*t pie….. Your Grace?

  • HarryHype59

I am relieved Rafa is staying. However, the statement from Ashley regarding funding indicates he isn’t putting any additional cash into the transfer kitty. It is going to be a season of wheeling and dealing on a comparative shoestring, as the big TV money won’ t come in until the end of next season.

    • Scottpaige

How do you know. You know no more than the rest of us

      • Leazes Ender

He knows more than you dic*heed!

      • HarryHype59

Think about it Scotty lad. Ashley is saying Rafa can have the money from player sales and other means to fund transfers. Even allowing for the parachute money this is no where near 100m. The club had no EPL TV last year and this is when it kicks in.

  • Scottpaige

Wish everyone would just quit with the twisting on for 5 mins !!!!!.

    What do you all want?

If it had rumbled on for weeks. Moaning
    If Rafa left. Moaning
if Ashley said there’s 100m that’s to much. Moaning
    If no money. Moaning
If no meeting this week. Moaning
    If no statement. Moaning

    • Leazes Ender

Youre not allowed to vote for yourself Scott….eh bobbi

  • Toon fan

Parachute payment is £40mil or so, new sponsorship deal £20mil?, maybe some funds left over from Sissulko? ST sales, merchandise sales. Id say minimum £70mil+ sales of players like Thauvin and anyone else deemed surplus to requirements . £100 mil minimum for Rafa?

    • Megatron1505

Parachute is £75m these days, around £120m is the regular Prem payment plus position bonus.

      • Toon fan

What is your estimate for Rafa’s war chest?

  • Megatron1505

It’s £75m parachute, around £40m left over from the transfer surplus, the kit deal should be a minimum of £8 – £10m plus anything he can get from selling the dross (another £3.50).

Of course we need to factor in wages, signing on fees and agent fees too.

    Doesn’t seem too bad….

    • David Miller

The parachute is split over a few years, and as we got promoted back we don’t get the rest unfortunately.

  • Alreet

Whats with negatives again and again on here. Disecting what mike has said and claiming that he wont be putting owt in and random statements about not getting tv money till next year. This is the most positive thing to come out since we got rafa for last season.

How happy is he. What money does that equate to. Who cares. The man is staying and seems to have carte blanche on all things playing staff.

He ripped it up and rebuilt last season. He needs to do it all again.

    • NUFCLX

Your correct about Rafa staying being positive but due to his “previous” it might take a season or 2 before we stop dissecting what “Mike” says.

  • SH.ER

    Yeeeeeeeeeeees Wooooooohoo :)
I expect to see MANY faces hiding from the mag tonight :PPPP

  • 1957

It sounds like we are still working on the club “…wiping it’s own nose…” theory of Llambias, but Benitez is happy with what he heard so that’s the end of the stay / go speculation in the media for now. I’ve no doubt it will start up again when we don’t sign players included in one of Lee Ryder’s fantasy articles and Lee speculates its because Ashley has broken his word.

    • Leazes Ender

      You understand the ouroboros…

  • Albert Stubbins

several key contributors on here have been telling us all season how Rafa wouldnt get backed and that he’d be off at the end of the season, in fact we wouldnt get promoted and its all because of the fat man blah blah blah- I won’t name and shame you as you know who you all are- now isnt the time for pointless recriminations- they dont do any good- what is good is that RAFA clearly believes in Ashley and it finally looks as though hes keeping his promise- if Rafa has faith then so have I- and so should we all.

    • Jezza

Yes but this time last year we were told Rafa would have substantial funds to strengthen the team and yet we ended up with £40 million transfer profit in the summer and no signings in January. I’m positive about this development but it is only the first step. Let’s hope the end result come 1st September is that our playing squad is substantially stronger than it is now and Rafa is still our manager.

      • Albert Stubbins

He did have a substantial transfer budget. I think the second highest in the championship after villa net spend.  It is the first manager we’ve had under Ashley where he has complete faith in the manager. Would you give pardew one hundred mill?  This is different and has felt different from day one Rafa was appointed. Let’s face in there a virtually no chairman who are popular with the fans for obvious reasons. But now we at last all seem to be going in same direction  for once. Long may it continue.

        • Jezza

I see it differently. Yes NUFC paid out £50 million but they also sold for £90 million. That is not a substantial budget that is a substantial profit. No other club in the Championship made as big a transfer profit as Newcastle. In real terms we had the lowest net spend of all 24 clubs in the division. Ashley hasn’t given Rafa £100 million yet or indeed anything at all. There is an old saying that goes “actions speak louder than words”. The club statement is positive but let’s wait and see what actually happens before we all get too carried away.

          • Albert Stubbins

That figure is overinflated by the sale of two players. In addition to this we were coming down from the premiership. We had a massive advantage over most other teams and let’s be honest shouldn’t have needed to spend big in January given how many players we had already brought in the close season. If we’d have been off the pace I think it’s safe to say Rafa would have been given funds. It would have been difficult to justify although I appreciate hindsight is a wonderful thing.  We had the biggest wage bill and Rafa was backed in the summer. It’s slightly unfair to talk about net spend as Rafa did get in the players he wanted irrespective of how much money was in the bank. He declared he was happy of course he would have liked to have cemented this position in January but he got the job done quite easily in the end. He is also clearly satisfiedwith the vision moving forward so all in all Ashley has kept his word and we should recognise this without prejudice. Let’s give it a chance and see where it goes. I respect your position and understand your reasoning. It is a compelling argument but there has been a sea change in policy and the next month or so will illustrate this even more in my opinion. If I’m wrong I will hold my hands up but as you will testify I have held my position on this since Rafa came to the club.

  • HappyToons

BTW we will be competing with WBA for 8th place, they currently have 11 points more than 4th bottom, but 13 behind 7th place Everton. Now someone tell me why they think Rafa doesn’t think he can compete with WBA? (fair play to their manager’s tactics to get them as high as 8th).

It is Everton in 7th who we should be competing with in a couple of seasons; WHU, Leicester and Southampton probably next year if we want 8th place. Now surely that isn’t being too optimistic with Bournemouth going up with 90 points in 2015 and sitting pretty in 11th with ‘all’ ther resources?

  • Damon Horner

So Rafa is staying and has heard something he likes regarding money and internal control.

Sorry why are we moaning again?

Far too many finance experts on here tonight. Just be happy that Ashley is showing some ambition.

    • Leazes Ender

“I’ve confirmed to Rafa Benitez he can have every last penny the club generates through promotion, player sales & other means”….. except advertising revenue…. and club merchandising which will be at the discretion of the SD board (Ashley) …No inward investment….

THE SAME AS THE PARDEW-CARR REGIME… NO AMBITION.

      • Scottpaige

        Change the record man !!!!.

        • Leazes Ender

Sure as soon as Ashley leaves…. maybe.

          • Scottpaige

Look we all feel the same and Ashley will never be forgiven for what he’s put this club through.

But your like a stuck record. I read your articles in here and you put some good stuff on here . But as far as comments go your same old same old give it a rest man

          • Leazes Ender

I guess you’re a young man…. wait until you’ve had a lifetime of this from the Club and the Chronicle…. You do realise Ryder and Douglas are having a laugh at what they are doing and saying don’t you….. the club was always a joke… its a big fat one now!

          • Scottpaige

I’m not stepping down to your level. You wanna gripe at every comment.

As for a young man?. I don’t think it’s me that’s needs to bit of growing up.

You are getting boring with endless twisting. You and certain others on here, the regulars you know who I’m talking about think it’s only your opinions that count.

          • Leazes Ender

Well you see Scott its like this …. you seem to have developed a taste for Sh*t pie and when Ashley serves up another tranche you say yummy yummy…..

          • Scottpaige

            Moving on……… yawn

          • Leazes Ender

            time for bed sonny.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Ashley wil not leave, he needs someone to buy him out. That means whining folk like you need to put up for shut the you know up.

          • Leazes Ender

Not necessarily he could be murdered by a good samaritan

          • Stephen Paylor

            tread carefully leazes

      • Damon Horner

Who cares? He is giving Rafa a budget he is happy to work with. That usually means Rafa feels the value presented can hot the target he has and Rafa is not about surviving relegation season after season.

Far too much attention gets paid to the politics of it all. Let’s just see what the crack is when the action starts.

        • Leazes Ender

This is a budget for a relegation scrap…. and it means Rafa is playing games with the fans….its called ‘doing an Allardyce’….. yes sir no sir three bags full sir…. how much is the redundancy package worth…

If you don’t care I believe you…. not many United fans do care… they are the ones Scouser Lee Ryder plays off.

          Where’s this RAFALUTION?

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Come on Leazesl, you are being a..ridiculous. the TV income is a minimum of £99m, Rafa has not had this much sway on transfers, ever. Not at Inter, not at Madrid, not at Liverpool and not at Valencia.

          • Leazes Ender

Where’s this RAFALUTION then… it doesn’t exist…. a figment of Ryders little mind.

          • Stephen Paylor

why does a ‘rafalution’ have to be about only money?

          • Damon Horner

we’re a newly promoted club so an aim of surviving relegation wouldn’t be unusual, if the whole thing runs into another mundane stagnation then believe me I will be in your corner but Rafa is not like the mugs we have previously had managing us.

I don’t really care about Lee Ryder either, I don’t read his articles.

          • Leazes Ender

I hope you’re right and I’m completely wrong….. and you know I’ll start to believe it when Charnley, Carr, Moncur, Taylor and Bishop are shown the door…

  • Leazes Ender

When is the Rafalution going to start then…?

    THE YEAR AFTER?

    • Jimblag23

      What’s does that even mean?
When did Rafa say “look guys! I’m starting a Rafalution!” ??
That’s just a phrase made up by fans and the media, no base in reality.
Chill and TRY to enjoy supporting Newcastle. (If you can’t, maybe stop)

      • Leazes Ender

Haven’t you been inside the ground or bought a programme…. the club is using it as its bliddy marketing phrase.

        • Jimblag23

But it’s just empty hollow PR.
As an adult you don’t buy it, I don’t buy it.
It’s just silliness to sell to dummies.
What’s real is Rafa is a top quality manager who has credibility and respect, so I can buy into getting excited about that.

          • Leazes Ender

Its as near a mission statement as you’ll see….
it doesn’t say ‘Join the stagnation’ or ‘more of the same please Mikey’

        • Belfast Ali

You’ve got too much time on your hands mate. Get a life and stop trying to put our team, owners and management down. It’s tedious and pathetic. Real supporters are delighted with today’s outcome. But you’ll never be happy

  • Mal

    Fantastic news.

    • Leazes Ender

How ……in what way is this any different to the deals given to any previous manager….. ?

      • Mal

This particular comment related merely to the fact he is staying.

        • Leazes Ender

          Fantastic

  • Leazes Ender

So who do you reckon came out the winner in the transfer kitty negotiations then?

    • Lord

Like you say, the statement on available budget is not much different to what McClaren and Pardew had. I think more important than budget is who has control of that kitty as it’s been clear in the past the likes of McClaren and Pardew did not have that. You have to assume Rafa has been given assurances that he can buy who he wants with whatever money is available and that’s good enough for me for now.

I’m still cautious mind because I’m old enough (!) to remember the Keegan v2 era which had a similar feel good start to the summer but ended in the debacle of Keegan / Wise / Xisco / Milner and eventual relegation. Feels a bit different this time around and, dare I say it, I think Rafa is more level headed and politically savvy than KK was when it came to dealing with our esteemed owner. No less likely to walk off though if the carpet gets pulled from under him.

Happy with the news because on Feb 1st Rafa looked truly p***ed off. Will be watching the transfers with interest….

      • Leazes Ender

He’s signed now so Charnley can go back to being Charnley the clubs chief negotiator…. and boy doesn’t that fill you with confidence?

  • Alreet

Revenue from merchandise and advertising have always been his bag. Thats why he owns a sports shop.

This means that benny can have his own way on the side that counts. No gaffer will get full resources to blow on players. The club needs to exist after one season.

So he has player sales. Tv money. Championship winnings and money from droppinv down. Rafa aint a mug and isnt just in it for the pesos.

Give it till the end of June and we will see movement and intent.

  • Sing in the Leazes

I’m very confident that Rafa can get more bang for his bucks than anyone since SBR.

His modest budget boosted by his contacts, his scouting database and his big name will definitely attract some decent players.
And its true Mrs Ender – (and by the way L.E., are you OK? You sound more down(right angry) than usual. Is there something you want to talk about? Did the positive atmosphere on Sunday send you into shock? I’m getting griping pains just reading your comments tonight. Look on the bright side, I had to miss the game altogether! I’m devastated) – it’s true that our squad will still have plenty of relative poo in it to gripe about next season. And our budget won’t be great. And Ashley is using ‘careful’ language – that is definitely a worry you’re right.
So we will have challenges and obstacles over the summer and all of next season.
But so will everyone else from 8th down. They are almost all awful. What a grotty league its becoming. Such a shame when there are so many once great clubs languishing in the Championship and below.
There’s 2 Premier Leagues nowadays and we can win the bottom one next season with nothing more than a few decent signings, good management and team spirit. It’s all any of them have got.
It’s the team spirit that is the most important ingredient. Greece? Leicester? Every player on board and playing from the same playbook. Great things can happen.
So yeah, Ashley’s made some unforgivable mistakes and he has not been forgiven.
But Rafa is mint and the Toon Army are mint and we can do this in spite of him.
Win the loser’s league next season, then recycle the squad again as if it was another promotion.
Push on for a European spot.
We’ve been top 6, top 5, top 4 before and we can hack it up there. We’re big enough. Especially with Rafa.
    Come on!!!

    • Leazes Ender

You’re sound awfully familiar for somebody I’ve never spoken to…. what’s your other log in name(s)?

      • Sing in the Leazes

I’m a first time caller Alan… sorry for getting personal.
I posted once years ago as Starstruck but that’s all.
        Love your healthy cynicism/functioning memory.
Just worried about you… that day you seemed more upset than usual. I normally enjoy your posts more than I did on this thread.
Don’t worry though. Both ways you win.
Either Father Time will prove you right….
Or Lady Luck will smile on the Geordie nation and we can go see the open top bus with incredulity in our hearts.
But I don’t want to give Ashley the satisfaction of having hope.

  • Paul davison

Ha way man , relegation would hurt Ashley financially , he won’t want to endure that again , he’s definately not a mug what ever else you all think of him , I think the naysayers are so stiff with paranoia and overrun by conspiracy theories that it’s blinding you all , the basis of your paranoia is that you have not heard a confirmed sum of money that you think is acceptable ! But Rafa must have , and he must be happy with what he has been promised . So let’s actually trust that he knows what he needs and what he can work with . The naysayers on here have been popping at rafas tactics all season , he should be playing 4-4-2 cos that’s the Geordie way ??? And the gun ho approach has brought us nothing ! This bloke is the best manager we have seen since sir bob , he clearly knows exactly how to do his job , it’s an absolute coup that he here , let’s get behind him , the players and the owner and not bleet on like our bitter twisted brothers from wearside . That is the Sunderland way . Thanks to Ashley . Thanks to the players and a huge thanks to the gaffa . Let’s all move forward …..#UNITED

    • Leazes Ender

Where have you been for the last 10 years in bed with bobbi fleckman?

      • Dellashio

        Mackem

  • Mrkgw

Great news iro Rafa and that he is happy with MA’s backing. If Rafa is content with the arrangement then so far so good…..

    • Leazes Ender

Do you think so…..I think its a bland empty statement.

  • Blackburn1066

You don’t think they NUFC are going to come out and tell the world ( OH! look we have given Rafa the Gaffa 150 mil to spend.) A ten mil player then becomes a 30 mil player.

    • Leazes Ender

There’s this thing called negotiations…. a lot of clubs in the Premiership do them I’ve been told.

  • Brian Standen

Unbelievable that some (or one in particular) can see negativity in this, yes we cant ever forgive Ashley for certain things but this could be the making of NUFC in this modern era. I have been waiting since 1971 for a trophy so I can be as cynical as most, but today is a further day of celebration.
NUFC historically has been able to proverbially shoot itself in the foot but on this occasion it seems all is harmonious.
I for one am looking forward with optimism not backwards with cynicism!

    • Leazes Ender

Only if you read the Chronicle mate…..this is how they keep the ouroborus going….. hope…. nothing more!…. its quite a religious thing isn’t it…hope? Bread tomorrow!

Could you give Mark Jensen a nudge and tell him to look for the IP address of bobbi fleckman and compare it with the trolls who have turned up tonight…. that would be fun!

      • Brian Standen

It’s been hope since 1955 ( fairs cup apart), without hope you have nothing!
I don’t read the chronicle for my fix, it’s been rubbish since John Gibson stopped being the main NUFC reporter.
However back to the matter in hand, Rafa Benitez seems like a man with great integrity and even greater ambition, and if he has painted a picture that Mike Ashley likes then it’s all good – as long as Ashley is true to his word which is where you are getting your cynicism from.
However Westwood , McKeag, Shepherd, Ashley etc, they were and are all the same.
So on this occasion my opinion will differ to yours but football is all about opinions

        • Leazes Ender

Ashley is a mute…. no promises…. shies away from making any sound at all… dumb silence it used to be called…. he does it for a reason…. he’s sh*tt*ng on the clubs fans.

As for the previous owners they were all crooks except Shepherd who was an idiot.Mckeag did speak unfortunately it was in a faux Eton drawl…. only the Shepherds, Halls and Ashley have milked the club…. the others it was a Masonic pride thing…. prestige.

Rafa is going down the road of appeasement it seems…. devastated he hasn’t asked for input from the Billionaire.

          • Brian Standen

Ashley did make a promise 2 year ago. Top 4 and promptly got relegated- I prefer his silence if I’m honest.
This time smells different but just because of one man!
As keegan bought hope in 82 and 91, Rafa brings the same infectious enthusiasm.

          • Leazes Ender

….Nowhere near…. Keegan galvanised not only the whole of Tyneside, but the Catholic Church, the media and the players through his persona and the style of football….

            In Rafa we HOPE!

          • Brian Standen

When Keegan came all he bought was hope, its what follows that counts! If you remember he walked out because of false promises from John Hall! It was only after survival was achieved and the financial backing followed that the ball started to roll for NUFC and KK.
Anyway I’m looking forward not back, that time came and went and we still ended up potless.
            Great times though!

          • Paul Patterson

Fully agree Brian, the time to complain and moan and slate the people in charge of NUFC is when we’ve failed and not tried to stop the problems arising.

This has been evident a lot of times in Ashleys time owning NUFC, but after Promotion, the title and the words from Rafa and Ashley saying they intend to move forward, this really isn’t the time for moaners to come crawling out of the woodwork.

Here’s to next season and beyond WITH Rafa . .

          • Leazes Ender

You have had the same one failing for ten bl**dy years!

          • Leazes Ender

He walked out because the Halls blew the foreseeable budget top get Shearer in…. to stop Manu getting him that’s why he walked… he couldn’t take the club any further, he had the Halls and the press choose his squad and his tactics, he had a defensive coach foisted on him…. that is real reason he walked.

          • Brian Standen

And this is why your deluded opinion is flawed, read back instead of trolling!
You will see I said Keegan walked before near success, some 5 years before a certain Alan Shearer signed
We beat Blackburn at home and Keegan promptly quit because the funds were not there for the player he wanted to secure SECOND division survival, only when Lady Hall’s purse was open did he do a U turn.
You my friend can’t be taken seriously – but your welcome to keep trolling behind your alias!
I have another alias for you – mischievous mackem!

          • Leazes Ender

You cheeky b*gger I’m accusing you of complacency because you have had a big say in the output of the mag which was set up to offer a voice to the fans which wasn’t heard in the press….. you didn’t answer my question on the troll fleckman did you…. he said he worked for Mark Jenson in some capacity, typesetting I think…. so you must know who this is… Who is it then…. is it You?

The news media dont have the club at heart, so its up to the fans to stand up not sit on their hands!

You are welcome to look for my Ip address ….you will find one poster unlike ‘fleckman’.

You don’t want to take me seriously…. well that’s up to you, Maybe you should migrate to the NUFC blog like Dr, Ed Harrison…. because the pair of you are about as relevant to the future of United as a kick in the teeth!

So who is bobbi fleckman then?

          • Brian Standen

right get one thing straight, unlike you i DONT hide behind an alias!
You reference to a ‘fleckman’ I genuinely don’t know that person at all, although I do occasionally converse with Mark Jenson via email.
However with reference to ‘fleckman’, he like you (and me) is entitled to an opinion and I actually gave your opinion some credence until I read the pathetic name calling you exchanged above with a fellow contributor.
For someone who attempts to portray some seniority and long standing opinion of all things NUFC I found your side incredibly immature.
I repeat everyone is entitled to an opinion but name calling hidden behind an alias …..really!
Why can’t you accept the opinions of others? Just because you believe yours is right does not make everybody else wrong!

          • Brian Standen

Further to my comment below I certainly don’t have any say in the output of ‘the mag’, I write occasional articles which I try to make humorous if possible, but I always do so under my real name and often reference where I live.
I genuinely don’t know any regular Mag contributors, it is an open platform where anyone can give an opinion.
I also love reminiscing or reading about the good old days when the Leazes End was the best home End in the country bar none!
Why don’t you entertain us and tell us some stories about those days instead of jumping on anyone whose opinion differs to yours!
You never know you might enjoy it

        • NUFCLX

I agree, as long as MA keeps his word.
I had to laugh when u mentioned Westwood and McKeag. Can u imagine what it would have been like if we had these websites in those days. All we had were letters to the Chronicle or “Have your say with Sam Brooke’s” in the Pink”.

          • Brian Standen

Indeed. But it was still fun complaining

        • Dellashio

          You tell him lad!

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I worked for Mark Jensen? Where do you get this rubbish from?

  • Down Under Mag

Given the promotion and TV revenue and some likely player sales from those out on loan, it stands to reason that the club will have significant funds to back Rafa with, although there is never going to be enough for some folks around here. I don’t expect (nor want) Ashley to bankroll a major spending spree and as long as Rafa is allowed to spend what he has been promised (and obviously happy with) then great…that is all we ask for. I also agree that you don’t want to announce how much you have to spend, you want to play your cards close to your chest if there is any hope of seeing prices remain sensible.

    • Dellashio

That’s the best comment I’ve ever seen on here mate! 100% correct!

  • Jezza

I’ve been out all evening and have just come home to discover this news. My mistrust in Ashley remains as strong as ever as does my cynicism. What I will say however is that this development is the best we could have hoped for at this moment in time. There is a lot of water to pass under the bridge between now and next season but I am feeling a little bit more cautiously optimistic tonight.

    • Wor Lass

      Just right, m8.

    • Andy Mac

Agreed Jezza and I think the Scotty’s of this world need to hold back with the vitriol as most of us are simply trying to figure out what “and other means” refers to ?

Having said that it makes no sense to state how much the club will spend as that attracts the gold diggers (agents) like flies around a makem.

  • Dellashio

Good enough for raffa, good enough for me so f*,ck the haters, get a life!

  • Stephen Paylor

As expected the club can spend what it creates as long as it doesn’t add to the debt. Realistically that will not be as much as people have mentioned. Doing some research it seems that the club will have lost maybe 15 million last year because of relegation which seems like the net amount added to the debt by Ashley in December 2016. In the PL our revenue was around 126 million with that number falling by around 30 million because of relegation. Around 90 million turnover with wages of around 55 million and operating costs swamping the rest. My guess is that the player sales net margin that will be paid in installments will help balance the books of relegation so we will move into this new premier league season with an even balance. 110 million is what will be paid out from the PL for the year 2017/8 but if the bank account is very low right now they will have a cashflow issue to deal with before spending money on transfers. They will get 38 million from the premier league pretty soon and the Thauvin deal should push the money up to close to 50 million. Season tickets will start adding money too and i would think a start of season balance of 60/70 million. Of this money almost all of it can be spent as further payments from the PL will cover operating expenses moving forward quite comfortably. I would expect the net spend to be somewhere in that area. An extra maybe 10 million available in the january window and another 60/70 the year after. 2017/2018 revenue for NUFC will smash the average of 127 million and will be closer to 180 million. Expect 60 million net spend and a further 10 million in January.

If it were me i would go for 2 solid loan players from one of the top 4 (Adnan Januzaj and Wilfred Bony) and buy 4 top class first teamers for LB, CM, LW. I would give Anita and Goufrann new contracts as replacing them just with a squad player will cost millions.

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Financially, I think you are about right. We know Townsend and Sissoko are being paid in installments with the latter seemingly contingent on a number of clauses (appearances etc) so the headline figure is misleading.

As for players in, Bony has hardly had a game for 2 years and januzaj has struggled. I agree that Anita will get a new contract, not so sure about Gouffy, he came good this season (especially early on) but that may be his level.

  • Wor Monga

It’s unbelievable looking back over this site (and an earlier one) this morning, to see that braindead troll (Leazes Ender) spend many hours just trolling some honest comments that genuine supporters have put on here in answer to the above article…
…yet never once over the years have I ever seen him come up with anything pertaining to any actual game of football…He’s just comes across a sad tossa without any close companions or friends who needs somebody to respond the fact that he’s still alive, and by being negative (or insulting) to the vast majority on this site satisfies that need…

…As for the article the amounts involved will never be disclosed to the public, but it’s more than enough to know that Ashley is satisfied that the club, playing and financial,is in now in the right hands, with Rafa Benitez…
and that any hesitation or backsliding by him would result in total devastation of a club that is in the ascendancy…he’s moved fast to make that known, and the only thing that would make Ashley do that is…respect and fear!!!

    • Leazes Ender

I think you are the braindead one fatty…. here’s why…

      A. You haven’t learned a thing
      B. You are one of fleckmans aliases
      C. Your previous names were ‘Big Sams Black and White Army’ another name in the second person.
      D. For someone who doesn’t know me at all you read a lot into my persona
      E. You read a lot into the motivations of Ashley and have been wrong about them all
      F. You are reading in Rafa’s motivation are you a clairvoyant?
      G. You are devoid of any rationality and salute whatever is put on the flagpole.
      H. You have had ten years of Ashley…. you must have seen his Parliamentary select committee performance… and still you don’t get him!
      F. Fatty.

      • Wor Monga

Eh!…where did all that come from, bluebottle…sounds to me like the fantasies of a very angry and deluded mind!!!

        • Leazes Ender

G.You are obviously a God botherer… so easy to see your deluded mind.
          H. From the clues: I’ve seen you being taken to the match because I recognised your carer on a particular day.
          I. Not wrong am I
          J. run that up your flagpole

          • Wor Monga

…just sounds to me like a few more fantasies from your very angry and deluded mind…that also needs to have the last word!!!

          • Leazes Ender

            K. You are a member of the Catholic fraternity
            L. and a member of the Liberal Democrats

          • Cuh736

Good luck finding a husband with that attitude

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

You even got confused on you A. B. C.

          • Geordie-7676

There really is no point in rising to it…..he is just an idiot!!

          • Leazes Ender

            Okay thanks

          • Geordie-7676

            You are most welcome.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Leazes, I very much doubt you are right about Wor Monga as you don’t seem to be right about much but you seem to be mocking people who may need the assistance of a carer, yesterday, you mocked me for perhaps needing a wheelchair (I don’t as it happens). Before, I thought you were just a little daft but it seems that you are an absolutely hideous and vile individual.

Have you ever taken a moment to think about what you are saying? You’re not a very bright fella and that’s alright, you have your say even if many think it’s a bit weird but you seem to think it’s OK to mock people for their disabilities or medical problems, that is not OK.

  • Geordiegiants

The only reason Jaba has changed his mind is, his empire was crumbling around him. Not heavy weight Rafa, he has come in because Jabba wanted him in, his advisors have told him it’s no good alienating his customers and he needs to change something. He had no choice in trying to getting rid of the negative press before it sent him, his companies and share holders to the gutter.
Call me what you like, negative etc etc etc, I’m only saying it how it is, I like everyone else hope and dream the same as everyone, I am optimistic, but know that Fat man will/could pull the plug any time.
I just know it’s the reality.

    • Leazes Ender

      Stout fellow

  • Grahame Johnson

If we are honest we have never had owners who care, in my time as a fan Keegan,Robson and now Rafa have created something to buy into. I am a old twisted cynic but the emotions of Sunday where something new. The steps off the field and on are great to see if I think of all the when’s, why’s ifs buts and dodgy haircuts I might as well not go

    • Leazes Ender

Brian Clough would have done something about Ameobi and Atsu’ haircut….

  • Geordie-7676

Great bit of news, potentially a game changer in the future fortunes of our club.

There will always be concern where Ashley is involved, but, in this instance, whilst there is nothing concrete yet, these are just words at this moment in time, there is no way that Rafa would stay if he had any doubt as to the credibility of Ashley’s words/promises/vision.

There will of course be those few out there, that no matter what happens will always strive to find the negative in every situation we find ourselves in, but those people should be ignored in full.

This is a promising development, one which could, and should see the club catapulted back competing where we should be over the next few years.

Fun times ahead, with a few disappointments thrown in, of that there is no doubt, but lets all ride the ride and leave the moaners to moan.
