In an official club statement, Newcastle United have confirmed the design of the new Newcastle home shirt.

The leaked image of Dwight Gayle (see below) we featured this morning, proving to be the real deal.

This season sponsor logos are allowed to appear on the sleeves of Premier League clubs as well – but in the images released by NUFC, nothing is showing, as yet.

Newcastle United official statement – Monday 15 May 2017:

Newcastle United has revealed its new 2017/18 PUMA home kit ahead of the club’s 125th anniversary season.

Featuring a new commemorative crest to honour the club’s milestone year, the kit also features the Magpies’ new sponsor – FUN88 – for the very first time.

The Far Eastern gaming company has agreed a three-year deal with the club and will feature on all adult shirts and training wear.

The new home kit and sponsor were revealed in a special video, with some of the Magpies’ legendary former players teaming up with members of the current first team for a photo shoot.

PUMA has created a classic version of the club’s famous black and white stripes for 2017/18, adding black shorts and black socks with a white turnover – a familiar look to some iconic home strips over the years.

The club has also selected red numbers and lettering on the reverse of the shirt for its anniversary campaign, a nod to the style worn by many of the club’s greatest ever players and teams over the years.

Lee Charnley, managing director at Newcastle United, said: “We have worked closely with PUMA to deliver a design that celebrates our history.

“The anniversary crest, simplicity of the design and the red numbers on the back of the shirt are just small touches that make it a special kit for a milestone season.”

Newcastle United’s 2017/18 PUMA home kit will go on sale at the stadium store and nufcdirect.com from Thursday 15th June. The club’s away and third kits will be officially revealed on club channels this summer.

As part of gambling regulations, junior kits will remain unbranded.’

Earlier today (Monday 15 May) on The Mag:

There are claims that the new Newcastle home shirt has been leaked.

An image (see below) is now circulating which is allegedly the new design.

In April, Newcastle United confirmed that a special 125 year badge would be part of the new look kit for the 2017/18 season, celebrating the formation of the club as we know it in 1892.

The shirt design below includes that badge, plus potentially the identity of the new club sponsor.

The Chronicle recently claimed that they knew that replacing Wonga was going to be a Chinese betting company and that is what is also shown on this circulated image.

With no league sponsor now, Premier League clubs are also allowed to have a separate brand on the sleeve as well as the main sponsor on the front of the shirt.

Though of course clubs can choose to sell the whole package just to one sponsor.

On this Dwight Gayle image you can’t see if there is indeed a sleeve sponsor as well, though it would be a surprise if the new kit doesn’t include this extra sponsorship/advertising.

News of a  potential sleeve sponsor if/when back in the top tier, had already seen some Newcastle fans worrying that this will be Mike Ashley’s first route into putting Sports Direct branding on the NUFC kit.

    Nice shirt,
lets hope it doesn`t turn out to be a Chinese Brothel & gambling den in Stowell Street

    • Toonarden

      Childish response.
According to Wiki it is a huge and well respected company In Asia who sponsor Lamborghini among others. Wiki also says they are paying £45m per season which, if true, would be a few bob more than Wonga!!!

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

        Monet, Money, Money
yeah Ok ,gambling is far from reputable,
        Birdbrain

        • Toonarden

And you think that beer companies, banks and airlines that kick people out of their bought for seats are all paragons of virtue do you? What a virtuous little Moose you are.

          • Soldier

well some people do set standards, i can see that your`s are pretty low,

          • Toonarden

Pretty high actually if you actually read what I said. I was pointing out a comparison of companies being thought as ‘reputable’ or was that a bit difficult? Didn’t say I agreed with them.

      • Burt Humperdink

£45m a year that seems like a huge hike, I’d like to see an official confirmation on that one.

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

          I think that’s over 3 years

      • Soldier

i agree with moose, there`s no respect in gambling unless of course you are like Ashley

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

So, who is ok for you and would you forgoe a new striker in favour of what you consider a better sponsor? Middlesboro get £1m a year for their local sponsor, I wonder if they would have preferred a bigger deal and a better forward line.

      • Albert Stubbins

45 mill per season?? that would make it a better deal than what Chelsea are getting?? no way- I’m not having that- was there not a decimal point between the four and the five?

  • Leazes Ender

Graham the club wasn’t formed in 1892…. it changed its name in 1892…. for Gods sake read your copy of the history of United by Paul Joannou ….

They were celebrating 100 years of the name change the club was formed in November 1881 (but existed unregistered in 1880) as Newcastle East End, by the Rosewood Cricket Club.

The Halls and Malcolm Dix wanted to celebrate 100 years of the name change and they have seemingly knocked a decade from history…. it was a centenary of ‘United’ and a centenary of Football league governance…. Not the age of the club though.

Just as Lee Ryder has absolutely no knowledge of the Leazes End or the history of the club (along with Shearer I might add) who glorify the Gallowgate…. we existed a lot longer than than the bloody 1980s for crying out loud….you cant re-write history because you never understood it in the first place!

    • Jimblag23

How could any of that be true, football only started in 1992.

      • Leazes Ender

Paul Joannou history of United mate…. just read it…. we were elected to the second division in 1892 along with Woolwich Arsenal and a club called Liverpool…. and believe it or not we applied to get into the Scottish league before that….. history could have been so different and the trophy cabinet so full.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          2 good reads

          • Leazes Ender

            Its like QI

          • Jimblag23

I was being facetious Monsieur Ender.

          • Leazes Ender

            I was being hideously vile

        • HappyToons

I doubt it, we’d still be playing Berwick as the local derby, in the same Division!

  • Soldier

Money lenders, now gamblers. i suppose beggars can`t be choosers not with an owner like ours anyway who reeks of ill repute

    • Leazes Ender

In five years time it will be a step up to Ryan Air

      • Soldier

it would most certainly would be

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

        What is wrong with Ryanair

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

that just just confirms that you are indeed an Idiot

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I fly with them every week, on time, very reasonable and it’s only when you go somewhere in the holiday season when the clients are a bit off.

          • Leazes Ender

            Are you a stewardess now?

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Hmmm, no. Have you been hideously vile to anyone today? You seem to have a few days off after you scraped the barrel

    • SH.ER

      Get the hell out
half the Premier League clubs have gambling companies as their sponsors

      • Soldier

so that makes it ok, idiot

        • SH.ER

It’s not my problem that you are an “idiot” living in a cave

          • Soldier

            Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

          • SH.ER

& why it matters to you?
They will offer more money than Wonga
Is that your money? Are you going to suffer from this?

          • Soldier

            go away !

          • SH.ER

Not before you say what the “type” of sponsor you would like
            to have …

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

well the likes of you would take anybody as long as the money was there, just like the Scumbag that owns the club

          • SH.ER

            That’s how Football works fella
            not me

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

The same people whining will also moan that commercial income is too low.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

never moaned about income EVER, it makes not a scoot to me

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Ok, so you will not worry about new signings then because money has to come from somewhere

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Which transfer would you like to cancel if you don’t want the sponsor?

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

Diame, Sels, Lazaar & thats` just a starter for 10

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Diame was crucial to the way we played away from home and many of those grafted points. So, you would have been pleased if Charnley had told Rafa that he could not buy Sell, what happened to letting Rafa manage the team? Which aspect of Lazaar’s play gave you concern? I’m guessing you’ve never seen him play.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

you must watch different matches than me Blobby

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I thought you were still boycotting the game.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

i have a TV with sky, Bt & an android box, i`ll not go until Fatty leaves

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

In which case, you’d not appreciate the work Diame does, especially away.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

well i BET he wont here next season

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

You can get great odds at fun88 but personally I’d say he’ll stay.

          • Jezza

I despise Ashley as much as you do and I admire your stand on boycotting matches but given the choice I’d personally rather go to a match at St James’s Park than give any of my money to Sky and that vile ogre Murdoch.

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

It seems to me that whoever we got would be wrong for some folk.

Everyone seems to love an alcohol company yet that causes far more problems than a little flutter on the gee gees or borrowing £100 until pay day.

          • HappyToons

What’s wrong with living in a cave?

  • Paul Patterson

Let’s not get too worked up about it being a gambling company. The 1990s kits were highly profitable and everyone loved them, even though they had alcohol emblazoned on the front. What’s the difference?
I don’t gamble so it doesn’t bother me, however I do enjoy a good drink.
It looks a canny kit and if we rule out any company that could be deemed remotely unethical, we wouldn’t find a sponsor.
Plus, if the fees are anywhere near true, then it can only be more positive..

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

well the top 6 managed to find a reputable sponsor, but them again they dont have a person like Fatso owning the club

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

        Who are Tottenham sponsored by?

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

well they need it after they were shafted for Moussa

        • Leazes Ender

          The BBC

      • Steve Smith

We’re not in the top 6 unfortunately.

  • Berkshire Mag

Got to be honest, I love the shirt, but not the sponsor, aesthetically it just looks naff! We are a team in the English Premier League what’s with the Chinese writing? Hate it on WBA’s strip, feared when I heard we had Chinese sponsors we would too! AND we should have kept the hoopy socks!

    • Jezza

No doubt the Chinese script is to cash in on Premiership games being televised out there.

  • HappyToons

100% polyester made in China, looks like a hockey ref’s shirt, costs a weeks benefits, but the Chinese logo, seems, er, FUN

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Benefits are not intended for designer sportswear

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

        they are in Liverpool

        • HappyToons

Yes, all the Lacoste gear the Scousers were first to wear, as they rifled shops in Rome. Most of the daft Stoned Island is worn by the DSS squad!

          • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I thought the French were first to wear lacoste.

  • Chris

Don’t mind the change, but still hate the blue with a passion. Almost makes it look cartoonish. Being in black with any colour trim would be been slick…this makes me rethink purchasing again.

  • HappyToons

Next we will have a Chinese owner and selling a billion shirts …

  • Wor Lass

Apparently, they really wanted to sponsor Triple M but Betfred beat them to it!

  • HappyToons

Dafabet? ‘In 2011, footballer and TV pundit Alan Shearer signed as Asian Sports Ambassador for Dafabet and to introduce Shearer to the Asian sports community’

I see the mackems went down and Blackburn with that sponsor, is that an omen?

  • Mrkgw

Decent shirt but would have loved to have seen the blue star or brown ale logo as sponsor. Would have made a colossal difference in terms of sales.

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

The sales would not make up the lost revenue. Alcohol is not the best association with sport

  • toonterrier

Maybe ok to wear at someone’s FUNeral.

  • Leazes Ender

I’d like to see a prestigious local company put its name to the shirt… unfortunately there aren’t any.
