On Wednesday we brought you news of  how Newcastle United had helped a punter land a £60,000+ bet for only a £10 stake.

A Scottish man in his 50s had put a bet on at Ladbrokes before the season started, forecasting who would win the four leagues in Scotland, plus the three below the Premier League in England.

Well in advance of last weekend, the punter had already seen the following win their league titles:

4/1 Livingston (Scottish League One)

Evens Hibs (Scottish Championship)

3/10 Celtic (Scottish Premier)

11/2 Sheffield United (English League One)

So only three to go…On Saturday both the Scottish League Two and English League Two titles would be sorted, he had 4/1 Arbroath and 4/1 Portsmouth.

In Scotland Arbroath could only draw at Stirling, which meant that if Forfar won at home to Annan, they would be Champions and the bet would be blown. Forfar surprisingly lost their home game 4-2 and the bet kept running.

Portsmouth easily won 6-1 at home to Cheltenham but if either Doncaster or Plymouth won, then Pompey wouldn’t be champions – and the bet would be down.

Plymouth could only draw 1-1 at Grimsby and then despite having taken the lead, Doncaster ended up losing 2-1 at second bottom Hartlepool (who sadly were still relegated after Newport’s late winner) with two goals in the last 16 minutes.

So the bet only just survived and carried through to Sunday, his bet on 15/8 Newcastle needed to land a remarkable wager. The rest is of course now history but can you imagine what was going through the head of this poor 50+ year old Scottish bloke?

Newcastle of course did the business winning 3-0 against Barnsley then that 89th minute Jack Grealish goal meant the £10 was confirmed as having turned into £60,734.38.

On Friday afternoon, news has emerged of another punter who risked a tenner before the season kicked off and was also relying on Newcastle to play their part. He had forecast the second and third tier in Scotland, plus all four divisions in England:

4/1 Livingston to win Scottish League One

11/10 Hibernian to win Scottish Championship

4/1 Portsmouth to win League Two

6/1 Sheffield United to win League One

7/4 Newcastle to win Championship

6/1 Chelsea to win Premier League

This is an unnamed punter from Romford who placed the above bet with William Hill and having lived through Saturday and Sunday, when Portsmouth and Newcastle dramatically won their leagues, this time he is waiting for Chelsea to land his bet.

Chelsea are seven points ahead of Tottenham with three games to play, the exact same scenario that faced Newcastle when they trailed Brighton with nine points to play for.

The blues are away at West Brom tonight and if they win, it will land the 7,087/1 bet, with the punter picking up £70,885.

Looking at the remaining fixtures, even if Chelsea don’t win tonight and Tottenham won all three matches, it is difficult to see Conte’s men not beating at least one of Watford or Sunderland at home.

For the punter it wouldn’t be amusing if it ended going down to the last day but for neutrals it would be funny seeing Chelsea fans sweat after the league had looked a sure thing for so long.

Friday 12 May West Brom v Chelsea

Sunday 14 May Tottenham v Man Utd

Monday 15 May Chelsea v Watford

Thursday 18 May Leicester v Tottenham

Sunday 21 May Chelsea v Sunderland
