Newcastle United have confirmed the return of red numbers (and lettering) on the new strip.

When the 2017/18 Newcastle home kit was revealed this week, it met with widespread approval.

The new strip carrying a special badge commemorating 125 years since the coming  together of West End and East End to produce Newcastle United.

Predictably, the only big complaint was that the new sponsor, Chinese betting firm FUN88, didn’t exactly enhance the new look.

red numbers

The Championship season just gone had featured gold lettering and numbers, whilst the last Premier League (2015/16) campaign had seen black lettering/numbers used.

So what do you think?

Do the red numbers and lettering give the new Premier League kit an extra bit of star quality? Vote now.

    • Leazes Ender

      Why?

      • Scottpaige

We all don’t have your outlook on life

        • Leazes Ender

The world is changed. I taste it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air

          • Scottpaige

Only smell that is coming from you is bull**it

  • NUFC9

Good to see a shirt with black and white stripes on the back rather than a big blank area to put the number in.

  • Mrkgw

Think that I like it but, blue or gold might have been better. Hard to tell – wait until start of the season.

  • Trevor Reaveley

There should be a 3rd option of “who gives a…… what colour the numbers are?”

    • Leazes Ender

Don’t worry Trevor its only for people who take pride in their appearance.

      • HappyToons

You, Jimblag and Trevor … with your Fun Boy Three old vinyl ‘The Lunatics (Have Taken over the Asylum)’ … sounds, er, like the new fun boy 3.

  • Leazes Ender

    When does the fun start?

Round at yours at 8, get in the WKD and the pork scratchings.

I think it looks great. If the front logo weren’t so obtrusive it’d be fantastic

  • Wor Monga

Fantastic all round…they should never have moved away from the red numbers…it’s part of our heritage…

…but no doubt the moral minority on here will find something to carp about…seeing as it’s been alleged that the red dye is being extracted from the blood of Chinese gambling addicts that are being worked to death in Ashley’s sweatshops!!!

    • MadMag83

I couldn’t care less if it was!

  • grantham mag

    looks good, bye bye wonga

  • East Durham Mag

As long as we stay up next season i couldn’t give a toss about the colour of the numbers on the shirt. Just saying.

  • HappyToons

Red numbers etc. are great and something from the early 70’s, but with that light blue logo, yuk

  • Grahame Johnson

    2 fat Geordie’s 88

  • MadMag83

The numbers look fine. Those Premier League patches, a welcome sight but they’re a bit oversized.

  • Cary

The full stripes on the back are a vast improvement over the plain white. Well done

  • Toon fan

When was the last time we wore red numbers? Was it the promotion season with KK as a manager? Asics in the first year up had black numbers and letters

  • Geordiegiants

Didnt Vincent Tan change the Cardiff strip from blue to red due to the fact its statistically a more successful colour? Lets hope they are’nt testing us out for a major colour change. Fatty is due a major F’up!
I do like it though, the red number that is.
