Newcastle are looking to land winger Dion Pereira according to reports on Friday.

The left-footed wide man (boy?) only turned 18 in March and won Watford’s young player of the year award on Monday.

Late in the season he was promoted to the first team squad and made his first team debut off the bench against Leicester, before also doing the same against Manchester City.

Dion Pereira isn’t yet tied down to a professional contract but if he was to leave, any buying club would have to pay development compensation for a player who started off playing for Waford’s Under 9s.

The London Evening Standard report that the player has been offered a first professional contract by Watford but that Newcastle, West Ham and Brighton have all registered their interest in taking the player.

Since taking charge 14 months ago, Rafa Benitez has brought in 12 first team players and around the same again to strengthen below the first team.

The Manager trying to lift the quality right through the club, with every area having been neglected in past seasons as Mike Ashley let the club stagnate.

Rafa Benitez brought in Jesus Gamez and Daryl Murphy who were 31 and 33 years old respectively, whilst at other end of the spectrum a stream of teenagers from both home and abroad have also been recruited.
