What do we think Newcastle United will do in the summer?

It’s a bit of fun this and you can think from the point of view: “what would I do next”, or you can try to estimate what you think the club will do next.

Below is a table of how I think things will work out.

You can see how long the contracts are due, who I think we will retain, sell, send out on loan, etc.

I have thought this through from a 4-2-3-1 point of view, which is how we normally play.

Funds are shown below as positive for incoming and negative for outgoing. In my estimate we spend £70m net.

Have a look and see what you think.

Plenty of scope for debate, I hope. A bit of fun.

I haven’t put names to the new players, of which I expect  seven.

    Jack Colback retain ?

I think he will. Not a starter but we need four DM (defensive midfield), and that would be John Joe, Hayden, Colback and AN Other.

  • Mayor Vaughn

He won’t sell Diame imo, but i wouldn’t disagree with most of that. I reckon he’ll get 50-60 million to spend plus what he brings in in sales. Six or seven new signings (including loans) in the summer should fit the bill, then small tweaks in personnel in January.

I think he will keep Diame and Mbemba. If another defensive midfielder is to be bought Colback could be sold. Mitrovic isn’t good enough and never will be, i’d rather keep Murphy as back up. Basically what you are saying is £70mil net spend. It might take more than that to make Newcastle United a force next season. We will need a RB, LB, CB, Defensive Midfielder, Creative Midfielder, a Winger and 1 or 2 strikers. The best way to look at it is Rafa’s plan to cover every position in the team with a minimum of 2 players per position, this will be done again this summer.

I hope he keeps Mbemba; that is what I would do but I don’t think he will. Not certain what he will do wit

I hope he keep Mbemba; that is what I would do, but I don’t think he will. Not sure what he will do with Diame. I think attacking central midfield has been one of our weaknesses.

    Thank Goodness you not manager

This is what I think Raphael will do. What do you think he will do, and what would you do? Say you get £70m net.

I would not sell Mbemba, Krul or De Jong, nor would I buy a goalkeeper or a second central defender (between Lascelles, Clark, Mbemba, a new signing, Dummett and Hayden we should have plenty). I would however strengthen in both full-back positions, left-back especially.
