Paul Heckingbottom is looking forward to his trip to St James Park.
After promotion last May, the Barnsley boss is guaranteed of a mid-table finish after an impressive campaign built on free/low cost signings and loans.
At his Friday morning press conference, Paul Heckingbottom wished one of those six loan signs well.
The Barnsley Manager confirming that Adam Armstrong is now back at St James Park with his season’s loan effectively at an end, as he can’t play against Newcastle.
Pointing out that Newcastle need to get a result to stand a chance of finishing top, the visiting boss says that they are looking forward to the challenge, claiming that ‘we thrive in games like this one’.
Well there hasn’t been too much thriving going on in any way at Barnsley in recent months.
Since January, they have won only two of 16 matches, with eight draws and six defeats.
The two wins came against Blackburn and Villa, whilst there have been defeats to Wigan, Norwich, Brighton, Derby, QPR and Bristol City.
“Adam Armstrong has returned to Newcastle. He’s played his part for us and we wish him well.
“Newcastle need a result to be crowned Champions.
“We are looking forward to a big challenge. But we thrive in games like this one.
“We will release the retained list probably next week. I need to sit down with the players after the weekend.
“We won’t hang around waiting for players to sign. They know we want them to stay but we need to have our plans in place quickly.
“It’s going to be a big summer. There will be lots out of the door. We have to replace them with equal or better quality.
“Once the season is finished, I am having a break this year. I need a rest. I’m taking the missus to New York!”
