The Newcastle team v Barnsley has just been announced.

Rafa Benitez makes three changes to the team that beat Cardiff 2-0.

Shelvey, Gouffran and Mitrovic, replace Clark, Diame and Murphy.

The big surprise though is that Isaac Hayden plays centre-back, Ciaran Clark not available and with Hanley & Lascelles also out, Hayden partners Mbemba.

Newcastle United:

Elliot, Yedlin, Mbemba, Hayden, Dummett, Shelvey, Colback, Atsu, Gouffran, Perez, Mitrovic

Subs:

Darlow, Anita, Haidara, Lazaar, Diame, Murphy, Gayle

Compare it to the predicted team we published earlier HERE.

  • mentalman

    Odd playing hayden in defence

  • Andrew Cowley

Would have liked a youngster in there.

  • Andy Mac

Now Hayden’s injured will Rafa regret leaving Hanley out ? Or will Dummy dig him out of a hole ?

  • Mrkgw

Brighton winning now – come on Villa.

    • Steve Smith

Brighton getting as many penalties in this game as we have been awarded in a third of this season.

  • nufcslf

Another bloody penalty, can you believe it. Villa have waisted all their best chances in the first half it seems, but you never know.

  • thewildchimp

Why do we have to depend on Villa again…:)

    • Geordiegiants

Go and give your head a shake!

  • Steve Smith

    Grealish!

  • Mayor Vaughn

    Do we forgive Villa now?
    No chance haha

    • Leazes Ender

I’ve always said Villa are a great club…. they left it late.

    • Hughie_Gallacher

Yeah, they have been my second team since I don’t know when.

  • amlak redsquare

    up champions

  • Wor Lass

Are the Bedsheet Boys now our best mates? Banner for next season`s opener: “Smug on the Tyne”!

  • Mrkgw

Abysmal coverage of our being crowned champions on SSN. Barely a mention and no coverage after the game.

    • Mrkgw

But hey, a massive massive well done to Rafa, players and those at the club. Huge achievement and richly deserved. We have hoped for this day all season – and it was worth the wait in the end.

    • Wor Lass

They showed the players going mental at the Villa result and collpsing in a heap!

    • hetonmag

They would rather concentrate on someone’s demise than somebody’s joy.

  • Simon Ritter

Kept telling myself the title wasn’t important. Promotion was the only priority. I changed my mind when that Grealish daisycutter hit the net. GET IN!!!!!!!!!

  • superalansuddick

Rafa and the lads dont seem to be getting much credit from the media, despite beating Brighton twice, having a better gd, and getting more points than them its more about them not winning it. think its upset a few people..HWTL.
