Concerns for Rafa Benitez as Bruce Arena selects DeAndre Yedlin

DeAndre Yedlin has been called into his first USA squad since Bruce Arena was handed the manager’s job.

It having been seven months ago (November 2016) since the Newcastle defender had featured for his country.

The squad are now set to come together in Denver for a training camp ahead of three matches.

They start with a friendly against Venezuela, followed by World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico.

4 June USA v Venezuela

9 June USA v Trinidad and Tobago

12 June Mexico v USA

The worry for Rafa Benitez will be that now DeAndre Yedlin is back in the international set-up, there is every chance he will be asked to participate in the CONCACAF Gold Cup which takes place 7-26 July and will be hosted by the United States.

Newcastle’s pre-season training starts 3 July and obviously it won’t be ideal either if the former Spurs player is asked to play football throughout the summer before the Premier League kicks off.

United States manager Bruce Arena has named his a 27 player training camp squad ahead of the team’s three June matches.

Bruce Arena:

“I think we have a good group.

“I’m still in the early goings with this team and I haven’t seen all of our players, so this camp gives me the opportunity to see six new faces we haven’t had in with the team yet, which is valuable.

“It’s also great that we’re able to bring back 21 players that have been in with our programme already in 2017. We have a roster that has good balance all over, we have good young players and hopefully it’s a team we can put together to get us points in both games.”
