After Newcastle’s shock defeat to Ipswich and then Huddersfield taking the lead at Derby, the Championship promotion odds were dramatically changed.
The gap at that point between second and third standing at five points and Huddersfield with a game in hand.
Newcastle United having been rated as sure things to be promoted going into the match, now found themselves still big favourites but bookies having doubts as they brought them in to 1/10 to get promoted, from what had been 1/100 already past the post sure things.
Derby scoring with two minutes to go though, returned us to the status quo, with odds of 1/100 on Newcastle going up and only the nerves of NUFC fans still jangling – not anybody who had wagered on United getting promotion.
As you can see the new odds below, Brighton’s seven point lead has made them 1/25 to win the Championship and Newcastle 18/1 – Rafa needing to win all three games and Chris Hughton not getting more than two points from their three matches.
To get any kind of promotion, NUFC are 1/100, whilst there are five others where it is too close to call in the likely play-off contenders, Huddersfield most likely at 9/4, whilst Leeds looking potentially to be missing out on top six at 11/2 after that disastrous home defeat to Wolves.
Fulham 3 Aston Villa 1
