Newcastle fans hoping to see Steven Taylor in action are going to be left disappointed.

The former United defender is now on the books of Ipswich who host NUFC a week on Monday (17 April).

After Portland Timbers agreed to release Steven Taylor only months into his two and a half year contract, the centre-back turned up in Suffolk mid-season and signed on until the end of this season initially.

Turning in a couple of decent performances in early February, Taylor then picked up yet another injury, to his hamstring this time.

Tuesday night saw him recalled by Mick McCarthy but only lasted until shortly before half-time, with Mick McCarthy telling the BBC that he expects Steven Taylor to now miss the rest of the season after the hamstring problem surfaced again.

This means that since turning 24, Steven Taylor has only once started more than 14 league matches in a season, that being 2012/13 when he managed 24 with Newcastle United.

With only three games for their money this season and with his overall injury profile, difficult to see Ipswich, or indeed any other club, willing to take too much of a risk on Taylor next season, with maybe a pay as you play deal the safest financially.

Steven Taylor missed out on facing old teammate Gabriel Obertan last night, the Frenchman coming on for just over 10 minutes at the end when Wigan trailed 2-0, Ipswich then adding a third with five minutes remaining.
