Sheffield Wednesday beating Newcastle United on Saturday has led to a major shift in the Championship promotion odds.

Brighton won at QPR on Friday night and they are now clear favourites to end up top of the table, with the best odds showing Chris Hughton’s team odds on at 5/6 and Rafa Benitez’ team now out to 11/10 to finish as champions.

Defeats for Huddersfield and Reading saved Newcastle from having a really bad day of it and the fact that David Wagner’s team are 750/1 third favourites for the title tells you this is very much a two horse race.

To finish in the top two, Newcastle and Brighton are basically unbackable, with odds of 1/250 and 1/500 respectively. Huddersfield are 25/1 but they would need to win pretty much all six remaining games and need Newcastle or Brighton to pick up hardly any points from their remaining five matches.

Taking a step back, if you ignore Newcastle and Brighton then it is a really interesting battle to see who else will go up.

The bookies make Huddersfield only 9/4 to do it but Sheff Wed (4/1) have arguably been the best of the teams in third to sixth place when facing Newcastle this season.

Looks like Reading have taken their foot off the gas with an eye on the Play offs, and that makes sense…Huddersfield will need to do that before long, and Leeds and Wednesday will have to keep going longer to make sure of qualifying…

…That will more than likely leave Brighton and us in the clear probably after this weekend, and I don’t think there’ll be too much effort going into being hailed as Champions…it makes very little difference once the real job is done!!!

I think all teams will take their foot off the gas now. There are a few more twists though before the champ is made ther are only 2 points in it so a draw or a loss for brighton and we are back up.

15 points to play for but i think we are there anyway.

Everyone from players to manager….groundsmen and the tea boy cant wait to get out of this dirty division.
