Yet another game when the 8 other players have to carry Perez Diame and Lascelles. The first goal was bad enough but the lack of effort for the second by Diame and Lascelles was shocking. FFS it’s Stephen Fletcher not Lionel Messi. And don’t get me started on Perez. He looks like a little boy lost in this division frightened to go near an opponent in case he gets hurt

what a shambles. Shelvey carrying the team. What the f…. k was Lascelles doing for the goals. christ this is grandfather fletcher who out jumped him !! we will get twanked off leeds if we play ;like that again. jesus it was embarrassing. Perez needs to go and quickly he’s petrified of being hurt, can’t make a tackle , can’t pass and can’t score

    • Whickhamrobbie

We never won one first ball header Lascelles was simply Woefull .Agree Perez plays like a 11 yr old in an U15 league his weak diving about is embarrassing

  • 1957

4 players failed to deal with Tom Lees for the first goal and two of them Diame and Captain Calamity allowed one of only two Wednesday players in the box, Fletcher, to get his head to the ball and score. It summed up the woeful defending by our team almost from the kick off. We were weak at CB and worse in wide positions, Dummett’s improved form of late was merely a false dawn he was his normal incompetent self tonight.

Shelvey was the only starter to earn his money tonight, Mitrovic at least made a little difference, maybe he should have had longer than 12 minutes Rafa

    • Jezza

The second goal was shambolic beyond belief. With the angle of the throw in and Fletcher’s position when the ball came to him, it looked very difficult for him to score with a header from that situation if that makes sense. The fact that he was able to score is a damning indictment of how bad the Newcastle defence and in particular Lascelles were.

B4 kick off I thought we would get turned over today as we haven’t really been playing well for a while now, but the first goal was a disgrace. We have lost our fight and focus, especially at the back where they were a discrace. They know who they are, rafa needs to rip them some new ars3 holes.

    • Jezza

Agreed. Newcastle didn’t look like a team hungry for promotion on Saturday, they looked a lot more like a team resigned to relegation.

  • NUFCLX

I think we did well, 11 Wednesday players against Shelvey, 2-1 was not a bad result. When was the last time we seen a good display from 11 players ??? Would we have conceded them goals if Clark and Hanley had been playing – I very much doubt it. For the last couple of months we have been playing like a lucky lower league team. I am so pleased we have a cushion, maybe we will sneak a couple of more wins this season. Attack from the 1st min not when we are 2-0 down. Really disappointed Rafa did not apologise to the fans after the game.

that performance has been coming for a while, never looked convincing for at least half dozen games. luckily we have probably scraped enough wins to get us over the promotion line, maybe time to try a few things in final games, start with Mitro for all remaining games ???

  • Bearsize

Perez is making a 5 yard pass look difficult. Needs to sort his head out over the summer as this season has passed him by unfortunately

    • Jezza

Perez needs to find another club over the summer.

  • Cliff

I don’t know why but every team we play come at us with attacking full backs pushing us all the way back. What do we have, Dummett and Anita who have absolutely no idea how to push on. Both have no pace so are scared to get caught out. Perez, he needs to go too, he has nothing to give at all. Gouffran has lost his early momentum and I can go on. Benitez and Ashley need to have a good discussion as to how much money is available because there is a lot of dead wood to clear

    • Damon Horner

We win most games and don’t concede many from wing play, even yesterday were both set piece situations. General opinion on the Full back position this season is all personal preferences both inside and outside of the club and not really a big problem.

If the full backs are attack minded and up the pitch then who will defend the attacks/counter-attacks? We’d need to rely on Shelvey defensively too, give me Dummett over Shelvey defensively any day, with that balance on the pitch Shelvey can do what we’d like him to do that he does so well.

Schoolboy defending at setpieces – just hope Clark is fit for Friday or we are heading for another defeat!
