Garry Monk has been talking ahead of Friday’s match at St James Park.

Newcastle v Leeds was a sellout some three weeks ago and the Elland Road boss was bullish about their chances.

Despite only winning two of their away games since Boxing Day, Garry Monk declared ‘ We can beat anyone in the division.

He revealed in his pre-Newcastle press conference that he is also hoping to have Liam Bridcutt and Hadi Sacko back from injury in time to face Newcastle.

In November the Leeds Manager blamed the match officials for what most/all neutrals took to be a comfortable win for Newcastle United at Elland Road.

Ahead of facing Rafa Benitez once again though, Garry Monk has stated than his counterpart has ‘an exceptional team’ and that they ‘look on course’ for automatic promotion’.

Let’s hope he gets that prediction right, having tipped Norwich to win the Championship ahead of the Leeds v Newcastle match in November.

Garry Monk:

Newcastle are one of the best sides in this league, they have an exceptional team.

‏”Their objective from the start of the season was to secure an automatic promotion spot and they look on course for that.

“We will go there with confidence, we know it will be very difficult to win, but we are aiming to do that”

“We know that when we reach our maximum levels and put our best football on the pitch, we can beat anyone in the division.

“Marco Silvestri has had an operation on his knee, at this stage we are unsure if he will be back before the end of the season”

“It is disappointing to lose Marco, but it opens the door for someone else”

“We are hopeful Hadi Sacko and Liam Bridcutt will both be back in the squad for Friday”
