The Newcastle team v Preston has just been announced.

A Newcastle victory would mean automatic promotion, with results at the weekend going United’s way.

Brighton’s loss at Norwich also opens up a slim possibility of ending up as champions, with a minimum seven points from three matches needed to match the Brighton (two games remaining) points total – NUFC having a superior goal difference.

Rafa Benitez makes five changes to the team that lost at Ipswich.

Great news to see Ciaran Clark back in the team, Hanley dropping out of the matchday 18.

Big shock is Elliot in for Darlow!

Perez and Mitrovic replace Diame and Murphy.

Whilst Vurnon Anita is at right-back instead of Yedlin.

Newcastle United:

Elliot, Anita, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, Hayden, Atsu, Perez, Mitrovic

Subs:

Darlow, Yedlin, Mbemba, Colback, Gouffran, Diame, Murphy

Always liked Elliott seems to be the most stable of all our goalkeepers barring injuries. Darlow is decent but always looks nervous to me and has had some wobblers.

  • Andy Mac

I’ve been supportive of The Dilsh regaining the No 1,spot for some time so fingers crossed but not yours Rob ?

  • Steve Smith

Assist for Elliot I reckon at some point this game.

  • Alreet

One more win lads. Make it a good un to rest the nerves

  • MadMag83

Pretty poor defensively so far. Too much ball watching. Creating very little going forward, was expecting us to go at them rather than pass it around the centre backs.

  • steve

Anita is being torn to shreds again, just can’t keep up when they break.

    • MadMag83

Didn’t do enough to try and block the cross.

      • GToon

Correct. Anita was horrendous tonight. Cemented Yedlins place in the side without Yedlin even coming on.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    2-1 Atsu, assist Mitro

  • Alreet

Finally a fast pass and a pacey attack 2.1

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

build up has been to slow, but we got the 2nd goal

  • Damon Horner

Good awareness from Mitro for the assist, among other I have had my doubts about him but seeing a play like that makes you realise there can be a capable player there.

    • steve

His link up play is far better than his finishing which is why I’ve been desperate to see him play in a front 2 beside someone with intelligent movement (Gayle).

      • Damon Horner

thing is as well if Gayle can do some extra work a bit deeper it could work in Rafa’s 4-2-3-1, just not sure how his hamstrings would handle it!

        • steve

As long as he gets closer to him than Perez does when we do have the ball.

  • MadMag83

Good work from Hayden for the goal.

  • Alex

It’s the Ghost of Alan Pardew : finding it hard to get over the line!

  • Damon Horner

Perez could be on for a hat trick of the highest quality here!

  • Steve Smith

Pressure is surely off now, if Brighton wobble in these last two games I can see us taking the top spot. Hopefully a couple performances like the one against spurs last year.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Job Done !

    • DC1964

It’s now over to Mike Ashley…..!!!

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

he`s not interested or he would have been there

        • DC1964

          It’ll be an interesting summer!

        • Lord

Well, it was a school night….

  • MadMag83

    Hopefully that clears the doom

  • toonterrier

Well done lads plus Rafa of course but made hard work of it in the first half. Now time to start planning for next season with no doubt loads of money coming from our beloved owner to give us a team capable of getting into Europe. Dream on.

  • Mrkgw

Congratulations Rafa, players and fellow Mags! 🍻

  • relaxed
