Not many players of recent times have truly ‘got’ Newcastle United but Jonas Gutierrez must be pretty near the top of those who did.

The Argentine midfielder became a bit of a symbol of all of the things that club could/should stand for, as Mike Ashley rode roughshod over the wishes of the supporters.

Little wonder that Ashley and his minions picked Jonas Gutierrez out for some lousy treatment, which eventually saw the former player win a damning tribunal verdict regarding the way the way treated him when battling cancer.

His connection with the fans has never diminished and any excuse, Jonas is straight on social media sending us his love.

The win over Preston and confirmed promotion, prompted Jonas Gutierrez to send a series of Twitter messages:

“Congratulations to Newcastle city and fans to be back to the #PremierLeague #NUFC #ToonArmy”

“Congratulation to newcastle city and fans #nufc that is the pic (see below). Once a geordie always a…”

“You are going to be always in my heart. Thanks for all #geordienation #ToonArmy a pleasure and proud to wear the black and white shirt.”

As for his own playing career, Jonas Gutierrez is getting plenty of football, starting 14 of the 21 league games so far and coming off the bench in another two.

Defensa y Justicia are currently 15th in the 30 club Argentine league.

As for Fabricio Coloccini, he has had some injury problems but is now back playing and has started eight league matches and off the bench in one other, San Lorenzo currently seventh in the table – 10 points ahead of Jonas’ club and eight points behind league leader Boca Juniors.
