The PFA Championship team of the year produced an interesting reaction on Thursday when it was announced.

All of the eleven players came from clubs in the top seven.

With four from Brighton, three from Newcastle, two from Fulham and one each provided by Huddersfield and Leeds.

David Stockdale (Brighton)

Bruno (Brighton)

Lewis Dunk (Brighton)

Jamaal Lascelles (Newcastle)

Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

Tom Cairney (Fulham)

Anthony Knockaert (Brighton)

Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield)

Jonjo Shelvey (Newcastle)

Dwight Gayle (Newcastle)

Chris Wood (Leeds United)

Talking about the selection on The Mag last night, Jonathan Drape-Comyn wrote about how maybe the PFA choice of team isn’t really based on the best evidence.

Whilst it is the actual players doing the voting, Jonathan pointed out that the voting process starts as early as January and there is the fact that when most Championship matches are happening, the players/voters are busy playing themselves – so how much do they actually see of the other players beyond when they play them once or twice?

Plenty was said about ┬áthe eleven selected and the three Newcastle players were commented on, one in particular…

However, what do Newcastle fans really think?

We’re asking you to pick below the three Newcastle players (the choice was narrowed down to the 16 who have started at least 10 Championship matches this season) you would have put forward for this PFA Championship team of the year?

  • Jimblag23

    Colback, Hanley and Selz.

    • love toon despite

haha, no Newcastle players for me. I’ve watched a lot of Championship football this year and we have flattered to deceive.

  • Toonbadger

Clark, Ritchie and Shelvey pushing Gayle out,JUST

    • Rich Lawson

Agreed, just voted that before I read your comment.

      • Jimblag23

Me too, and it felt very harsh on Gayle but had to be done.

      • Kev Newcastle England

        Agree too

  • Damon Horner

It’s relative to the divisions top performers not necessarily our top performers or our favourite players. Personally neither Clark not Lascelles would get in for me because neither have out-performed Dunk and Jansson.

  • Doug Dacre

Clark, Gayle and Shelvey from that list, Ritchie went missing mid season, , but the only one who get in my Championship team of the season is Shelvey.

  • Tim

Gayle’s got to be number 1 surely.
