Thursday update: Great News as Newcastle fans given more Sheffield Wednesday tickets

When information was released on Sheffield Wednesday tickets for Newcastle fans last week, it wasn’t great news.

As expected, Toon fans were being charged top dollar (see below), priced at £42 for adults, even more than the Owls had charged for their derby against Leeds United.

What wasn’t quite expected, was the size of the allocation.

Only 2,350 tickets were available for Newcastle fans, far less than expected.

The likes of Leeds United had been allocated 4,600 tickets when visiting Hillsborough earlier in the season.

Newcastle United later revealed that it was South Yorkshire Police who had imposed the ridiculously small allocation.

However, Thursday lunchtime has seen better news, with NUFC confirming that a further 750 tickets had been made available to Newcastle fans.

This brings the total up to 3,100, still not nearly enough to satisfy demand but at least the minimum you would have expected.

It appears clear that pressure has been brought to bear on South Yorkshire Police and they have been embarrassed into at least a partial turn around, even the majority of Sheffield Wednesday fans appeared to think the initial allocation was a joke.

However, I wouldn’t be wagering any money on Newcastle fans getting that full 4,600 that Leeds received.

Tickets are now on sale to Newcastle season ticket holders who have 80 loyalty points or more.

Newcastle United announcement on Sheffield Wednesday tickets – 17 March 2017:

‘Tickets for next month’s game at Sheffield Wednesday go on sale on Monday.

United travel to Hillsborough on Saturday, 8th April for a 5.30pm kick-off against the promotion-chasing Owls.

The Magpies have so far been given a maximum allocation of 2,350 tickets and season ticket holders with 100 or more away loyalty points can secure seats from 10am.

Tickets are priced at:

£42 for adults

 £32 for over-65s and under-21s

£15 for under-17s

£10 for under-11s

£5 for under-fives.

Any supporters under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.’

The ticket prices Leeds fans paid at Sheffield Wednesday earlier this season:

£10 under 11’s

£5 under 5’s
