This is how the Championship form table looks ahead of Newcastle v Wigan.
Saturday’s visitors are very much reflecting their whole season’s results, 23rd in the Championship and 22nd in the form table.
Ironically, the only recent positive was when they beat Birmingham away, only for Newcastle to fail to do the same at St. Andrews in the following match there.
In fact Wigan are very similar to Birmingham, in that they have shocking recent form and struggle to score any goals.
In these last six games they have only scored twice, suggesting if Newcastle score even one, they should take the three points on Saturday.
However, Newcastle have ran into the odd problem of their own very recently, failing for the first time this season to win any of three games in a row, plus only one goal in the last four and a half hours of football.
Surely though, Saturday is the perfect chance for that all to chance and Newcastle to bounce back, get at Wigan from the start and if NUFC can score, Wigan have to have a go because currently seven points adrift of safety they have to throw everything at these remaining games.
Their main hope maybe is that when you look at this Championship form table, Newcastle in 13th place aren’t the only ones to be feeling the pressure.
Leeds are the only one of the current top Championship six to feature in the top half dozen of this form table, with the likes of Villa, QPR, Brentford, Blackburn and Wolves, turning the season’s form on its head.
Steve Bruce will no doubt be telling everybody he is now top of the form table but for Rafa Benitez, he just needs to get home wins against Wigan and Burton in these next two home games and with 84 points and only six to play, the Magpies would be in a formidable position.
