Newcastle Lewis Gibson was England’s hero earlier today, the United defender scoring the only goal of the game to enable England Under 17s to beat Bosnia & Herzegovina.

This ensured a 100% record in their European Under 17 Championship Elite Round qualification, having already recorded victories over the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

The Young Lions will now compete in the European Championship Finals in Croatia in May.

The decisive moment came after 15 minutes, Lewis Gibson meeting Nya Kirby’s corner to score what proved to be the winning goal.

A match of few chances saw England see out the single goal win with the bonus of a clean sheet.
