The results of the Newcastle v Reading player ratings by fans.

The end of a draining week on the road, not least for the travelling Newcastle fans forced to travel to both Brighton and Reading in midweek – within seven days of each other. Around four and a half thousand Newcastle supporters also watched on the beamback in various bars at St James Park.

Those fans saw Newcastle put up a solid display and make it seven points from nine, though United were the ones who edged this Reading clash, despite what the possession stat says.

Not the highest set of marks this season but no surprise to see who heads the rating from fans, with Ciaran Clark (7.2) coming up trumps yet again, helping Newcastle to their 15th Championship clean sheet of the season.

Back in great form after the odd wobble, Karl Darlow (6.9) was rated next best, even though Reading only managed one effort on target. The keeper dealing with everything else in commanding fashion.

Paul Dummett (6.7) got another thumbs up from the watching Newcastle fans, giving another steady committed performance.

Fourth best was the player who came closest to breaking the deadlock, Matt Ritchie (6.6) giving a trademark busy performance and hitting the post.

Only three other players scored 6.0 or better, with Jesus Gamez (6.5) slotting in well at right-back in only his second league start for Newcastle.

Whilst Jonjo Shelvey (6.3) found the poor pitch a bit of a hindrance and Daryl Murphy (6.0) often lacked support so had to plough a lone furrow.

This left four players rated as the weaker performers with Jamaal Lascelles (5.8) not at his best alongside Ciaran Clark, whilst Perez (5.4), Gouffran (5.0) and Colback (5.0) struggled to impose themselves.

Below are the ratings as voted by Newcastle fans up to 7pm on Tuesday:

Or the usual suspects don`t shine,
it seems the same players are consistently average or below week in week out
one of them the Capt is one week up there with the best & the next mediocre.
Jamaal needs to sort it as next season the forwards in the premiership take no prisoners

The others being Passback and Gouffy. Difficult not to feel these 2 are a handicap as opposed to an asset.

Colback must go, Lascelles is a promising work in progress and I would be surprised if he retained the captaincy.

We are in the same position we have been for the last six years, we need a clinical goalscorer (we all see how many chances Gayle throws away) we need a replacement for Cabaye who is not, for lack of better words a petulant lunatic and a vocal and murderous centerback.

most important off season in a long time to follow

Colback was a regional stop gap and was never gonna turn into the ginger pirlo as quoted. He needs moving on. Along with dummett and gouff.

We want to think that dummett is alright coz he knows where bladon is but hes actually just about surviving in this division.

Mbabu has showed flashes of brilliance and could frustrate the best wingers outthere. Lascelles is very much work in progress and can only get better. Positional play can be a bit off but decision making is very good. Give mbemba a crack in his place. Give ritchie the armband coz he plays like he really means it every game.

Gayle may miss a few but he didnt get to the top of the scoring charts for nowt.

4 wins from 10 and we should have this in the bag
