Another interesting outside perspective on Newcastle United and the promotion race.

Earlier this week we featured the thoughts of a Sheffield based journalist who covers Wednesday and he predicted Newcastle and Brighton to finish top two but Chris Hughton’s team to be champions.

Third placed Huddersfield look by far the biggest threat to the pair in the automatic promotion places but what is the local feeling where David Wagner’s team is based?

The Huddersfield journo believes it will be a close thing but thinks the Terriers will have to settle for third.

He indicates that Newcastle should be Champions and that it is Brighton who Huddersfield have most chance of catching.

Newcastle got lucky when advancing by a further point as the two rivals lost on the weekend before the international break.

Saturday sees the top three playing opposition from the bottom four, a win for Newcastle is essential and any fringe benefits from the Brighton or Huddersfield would simply be a bonus.

Rory Benson of the Huddersfield Examiner talking to The Mirror:

“It’s hard to predict where Huddersfield will finish as it’s down to their promotion rivals as much as it is the Terriers

“Town are the fittest team in the league and – although there was a minor blip at Bristol City last time out – I expect Town to keep churning out performances and results to the bitter end.

“Newcastle have the quality in the squad to get the job done, as do Brighton, but I see the Seagulls as the team for Town to catch.

“All eyes will be on the top two in Huddersfield, with a play-off spot all but secure.

“Town lost to Cardiff City, Preston North End and Fulham earlier in the season and face them in the run-in, but all three have to visit the John Smith’s Stadium and I expect Wagner’s men to do the job at home.

“I expect Huddersfield to finish third this season – with Brighton and Newcastle just clinging on to the automatic promotion spots – but I think it will go down to the last day.”
