Glenn Murray after dramatic Newcastle defeat “It’s going to hurt…”

Glenn Murray was the beneficiary of a very lucky goal which appeared to have set Brighton on the road to success and a four point lead at the table.

However, by the end of the 90 minutes the striker was ‘obviously disappointed’ as Newcastle scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to earn an astonishing win.

As the stats show below though, this was no freak result just because the goals came late.

Newcastle had more possession (54%), almost twice as many shots (19 v 10) and twice as many corners (6 v 3).

Not surprisingly Glenn Murray felt the penalty was the correct decision but thankfully it is something that Newcastle fans can almost enjoy in the aftermath, winning despite the forces of darkness conspiring against us.

As Brighton’s top scorer says when summing up the result…’It’s going to hurt right now’.

The only pain for Newcastle supporters will be some very hard-earned hangovers, eased by a quick look at the table.

Glenn Murray:

“We are obviously disappointed.

“We lost the game against the club that is the closest to us in the division.

“It’s going to hurt right now, but come Thursday morning, that will be gone and we will be looking towards Nottingham Forest.

“It’s one of those things. We’re still second in the table and unfortunately we got beaten by the team that’s closest to us.

“But they’ve got hard fixtures and we’ve got hard fixtures to come too.

“I’m sure there will be lots of ups and downs in that time and it’ll be an exciting run in.

“It was a penalty after a coming together in the box.

“There are lots of those in the box and sometimes you get them, sometimes you don’t. I just think it was a bit clumsy more than anything.

“I then just picked my corner and went for it.”
