A strange weekend of fixtures in the Championship but David Prutton has once again got his prayer mat out where Newcastle United are concerned.

The top three clubs all find themselves with home games against teams in the bottom four.

Andy Hinchcliffe said earlier in the week that the pressures at the end of the season make these games far more difficult but it was Brighton who he fancied could drop points, as they are up against Blackburn who haven’t lost in their last seven games.

David Prutton describes it as simply ‘out of character’ following Huddersfield’s 4-0 hammering at Bristol City before the international break, whilst with Brighton, Prutton thinks they will still have ‘too much firepower’ (Newcastle are comfortably top scorers in the Championship, seven more than Brighton and 23 more than Huddersfield) for Blackburn.

Wigan have four points and only two goals in their last six matches, yet David Prutton says their game at Newcastle has ‘banana skin written all over it’.

No guarantees of any team winning in the division but it is laughable how on no basis of reality he sees Newcastle as the one most likely to drop points.

David Prutton predicts Newcastle 1 Wigan 1:

“This has banana skin written all over it.

“Newcastle struggled at home to Blackburn, Bristol City and QPR, and you fancy Wigan will go to St James’ and be really up for it too.

“They are fighting for their lives down at the bottom and I’m sticking my neck on the line here, I think they’ll get a battling draw.”

All the David Prutton predictions for top six games this Saturday:

Barnsley 1 Sheff Wed 1 (12.30pm)

Brighton 1 Blackburn 0 (3pm)

Huddersfield 2 Burton 0 (3pm)

Newcastle 1 Wigan 1 (3pm)

Reading 2 Leeds 2 (5.30pm)

    • Wor Monga

I always thought that was you mukka!!!

  • Wor Lass

He`s already told us why he does this sort of thing. Ignore him and he might go away!

As things stand after 38 games…the Championships already in our hands and it’s only down to ourselves to lose it…Rafa said that April would be the decisive month, and the 7 games would be crucial…because he knew he could have his team up for those 3 hard away games that might have taken it out of our hands…

…I’ve got faith that we will be up for this one…because this is the first of those 7 ‘must’ win April games, and everyone in the ground must get up off their seats, like it is away from home, and help to make it happen!!!

Poor article. What is wrong with that prediction? This fixture most certainly has got banana skin written all over it. We are not exactly cruising to victory in our home games are we? Stuffed by Fulham and very lucky to scrape a draw against lowly Bristol. If you are expecting us to demolish Wigan 4-0 or 5-0 then your prediction is far more outlndish than Prutton’s 1-1.

    • Wor Monga

Nobody’s expecting that, are they?…but a win will do nicely thanks very much!!!

    • SH.ER

depending on how we will react if we score a goal or concede one
I remember the game against Rotherham at SJP , we reacted well to their dangerous chance & came back in the 2nd half dominating
however the reaction in some other games was not the same ..
after we took an early lead against QPR , we just thought the game IS over
so you see what i mean ? depend on our reaction from minute 1 tomorrow !

      I am expecting a 2-0 for us …

    • Vodkamagpie

Wigan are not exactly flying at the moment, are they?,so it should be a comfortable win, 3-0 for us. Depends on the players, it’s football, so hard to predict any result

      • Jezza

Bristol City weren’t exactly flying when they came to St James’s Park a month ago either.

    • Scottpaige

Do you do anything but moan. Every post you submit is negative

      • Jezza

Better to be a realist than a deluded happy clapper. In any case when you have been following Newcastle United as long as I have you will understand.

        • Scottpaige

God the old “happy clapper” line. Yawn !!!!.

  • Albert Stubbins

To be fair- Wigan fans will be wondering how they never got a draw!!!
