The Newcastle team v Reading.

Newcastle could potentially go eight points clear at the top if beating Reading and Brighton lose at Rotherham.

In terms of automatic promotion, the gap to third could be as big as 14 points if all results go the way of NUFC.

The starting eleven he is relying on tonight – Rafa Benitez has made three changes.

Perez in for Diame, Gouffran for Atsu and surprisingly Jesus Gamez for Anita.

Maybe even more surprisingly, Dwight Gayle remains on the bench and Daryl Murphy continues as the sole striker.

No sign of Yedlin in the squad but Chancel Mbemba gets a rare inclusion on the bench.

Newcastle United:

Darlow, Gamez, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Ritchie, Colback, Shelvey, Gouffran, Perez, Murphy

Subs:

Elliot, Hanley, Mbemba, Yedlin, Anita, Diame, Gayle

You wouldn’t be a rich man if you ploughed your money into betting on Rafas selections.

    • Carlo Ancelotti

      you`d never win a bet

  • Albert Stubbins

wow- dropping Anita? Gouff for Atsu was obvious one. Perez an impact player for me but Diame was poor imo against Huddrsfield and most of the season. Murphy has earned his start and we have great option of Gayle for second half-last twenty if things arn’t going our way- In Rafa we scratch our heads but trust completely.

Anita is just back from a while out, think it would be daft to play him twice in a few days. Clearly Rafa doesn’t trust Yedlin for this game and wants a more solid back 4.

    As usual,I’d never have guessed Rafa’s line-up!!
Happy to see Murphy start,a bit bewildered about Gamez selection.Hope Colback doesn’t give away daft free-kicks near the penalty box!

  • Scottpaige

Couldn’t make money trying to guess a Rafa line up haha ?

  • Biggs Darklighter

Seems a canny team as long as Perez pulls his finger out.

I think Ayoze is best suited as a super sub. Rather like Diame, neither player IMO can give 100% over 90 minutes. Its the No 1 position that needs to be sorted at the end of the season. I’d prefer to see an attacking/creative MF whereas Rafa would probably want a Diame type ?

    • steve

I’d rather see a target man beside Gayle

      • Andy Mac

        Yeah but……..

        • steve

          … It ain’t gonna happen

  • Alreet

Take 7 from 9 all day long. And from our hardest games of the season.

We have all the pawns in place, lets take this league.

    • Scottpaige

Yea I think most would agree even more so after been 1 down to Brighton with 9mins left

      • Delashio

Still bet there’s a few morons that dont.
