Here is the list of the 10 clubs who have featured the most in the competition’s history

List of FA Cup Semi Finals as compiled by The Express:

Played 29 Won 19 – Arsenal (Won 12 Finals)

Played 28 Won 19 – Manchester United (Won 12 Finals)

Played 18 Won 8 – Blackburn (Won 6 Finals)

Played 17 Won 13 – Newcastle United (Won 6 Finals)

Interesting to see that in tenth place is Newcastle with 17 semi finals.

Even more interesting to see that with over 75% of FA Cup Semi Finals won, NUFC have a better conversion rate than any other of the 10 clubs.

The conversion/success rate in the Finals drops a little to a little under 50%.

The most recent FA Cup Semi Finals involving Newcastle United are –

2005 Newcastle United 1 Man U 4

2000 Newcastle United 1 Chelsea 2

1999 Newcastle United 2 Tottenham 0

1998 Newcastle United 1 Sheffield United 0

1974 Newcastle United 2 Burnley 0

A bit of a sobering thought for many of us that whilst they seem only to have happened  ‘few’ years ago, the last FA Cup Semi was 12 years ago and the last final we reached 19 years….

Never mind semi finals, I remember when I was a kid in the 70’s that Newcastle had played in more FA Cup finals than any other team, 11 in total. Of course that was before money dominated the game and the same three or four biggest spending clubs could pretty much guarantee to be there or thereabouts every season.

cracking point and I was exactly the same, so so proud of it I mean.

Only one thing though, Im sure it was 13 not 11 finals we were in. We used to all talk about it at school in the seventies and 13 is always what we said.

No it was definitely 11. It’s 13 now after 98 and 99. The most important thing is that we held the record back in the days when it really counted for something.

The conversion rate is possibly higher because we’ve played in less semi finals.

And even more sobering is the thought that the last FA Cup final we won was 62 years ago….
