Adam Armstrong with winner v France as remarkable England scoring record continues

Adam Armstrong has added to his impressive scoring record with England.

The Newcastle striker scoring the only goal of the game to beat France in their own backyard.

France are hosting a four team tournament and after a draw with Portugal where Freddie Woodman played the full game, it was the striker’s turn to impress.

In a tight game Adam Armstrong was involved in pretty much all of the England Under 20s better moments.

The French keeper saving an early curling free-kick from the Geordie forward and then just over half an hour into the game, Armstrong set  up Ainsley Maitland-Niles but his effort was blocked.

Just before the break, Adam Armstrong almost sent England in ahead, only for his shot to go the wrong side of the post.

With just under 20 minutes to go, Ryan Ledson put Armstrong through on goal and he confidently beat the home keeper to win the match.

In the closing stages France saw a header strike the woodwork but the young Three Lions held on for an impressive win.

England now play Senegal on Tuesday afternoon and a win would guarantee England as the mini-tournament winners.

Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman watched Saturday’s match from the bench as an unused sub.

England Under-20s:

Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Axel Tuanzebe (Manchester United), Fikayo Tomori (Chelsea),  Adam Armstrong (Newcastle United),  Callum Connolly (Everton), Lewis Cook (AFC Bournemouth) (c), Josh Sims (Southampton),  Ryan Ledson (Oxford United), Max Lowe (Derby County), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton)
