The EFL backed Championship Team of the Season has been named.
In partnership with Championship Manager they have named the 11 most influential players this season, with eight games (nine games in Huddersfield’s and others cases) remaining.
With a manager selected as well, the breakdown sees:
4 from Brighton
3 from Huddersfield
2 from Leeds
2 from Newcastle United
1 from Fulham
EFL Awards Team and Manager of the Season:
David Stockdale (Brighton)
Tommy Smith (Huddersfield)
Pontus Jansson (Leeds)
Lewis Dunk (Brighton)
Scott Malone (Fulham)
Anthony Knockaert (Brighton)
Jonjo Shelvey (Newcastle United)
Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield)
Dwight Gayle (Newcastle United)
Chris Wood (Leeds)
Glenn Murray (Brighton)
Manager: David Wagner
Something like this is always going to be subjective but with Ciaran Clark clearly Newcastle’s player of the season, it is amusing/irritating that he isn’t included.
As for other possible candidates, Karl Darlow is surely a possible with Newcastle having let in fewer (32) goals than anybody else.
Likewise, with Newcastle currently top of the league, hard to argue against Rafa Benitez’ inclusion, no matter how well David Wagner has done.
Also as part of the awards, the EFL goal of the season nominations have been put forward for people to vote on.
Despite Newcastle being top scorers in the Championship (70 goals), none of those strikes were included in the 10 selected for punters to vote on.
