Wolves 0 Newcastle 1 – Saturday 11 February 5.30pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:

Leazes Park Ender:

“Another very narrow win.

“Darlow not really tested.

“Mitro with the all important goal but wasn’t he lucky not to see red?

“Cannot underestimate how big those three points were.”

Jamie Smith:

“Excellent day.

“Worried Mitrovic might not see half-time after his yellow then collision with the keeper, but he’d won us the game by then.

“Lascelles backheel was superb but I can’t believe Mitro took a touch before slotting it!!

“Regardless, 3 massive points amidst dropped points from the play-off pack.

“Hugely important as I think resurgent Norwich will be a difficult next opponent.

“This is a tough month and to take a win here has put us at an advantage ahead of the coming challenges.

“Still keen to see our number 9 back though!”

Paul Lyon:

“Defended really well for the majority of the game. The back four looked solid in the 2nd half.

“Obvious thing to say but a second goal would have made that last 20 a lot more comfortable. Having said that I never really thought we’d give it away.

“Chuffed with the 3 points and happy to be back top of the pile!

“I’d take performances/results like that for the rest of the season now, just need to get promoted!”

Nat Seaton:

“A below par performance on a bloody cold night!

“I’ll take the win and going back top of the league.

“On to Norwich on Tuesday and hopefully a better performance, as I think we will need it…”

Ben Cooper:

“In the end, this was a comfortable win against a team which ran out of ideas as soon as we scored.

“It was like watching Rafa in his pomp at Valencia and then Liverpool, make sure you don’t concede and take any chance that comes along.

“Setting out to keep a clean sheet doesn’t make it easy to watch but it is easier to watch than what was in orange.

“Might have been different if Mitro had seen red, might have been much different if he got the penalty he should have.

“Either way, it was about the defence today and they didn’t let us down.

“9 wins to go.”

Toon Bano:

“That was a great win. Especially with the fixtures to come.

“Lascelles was an absolute rock. Rafa bringing him out for that one game was a masterstroke.

“Huddersfield look the only real danger to us going up now.”

George Stainsby:

“For a team with not much flashy about it, we seem to be top of the league.

“At the minute, I’m just thinking about getting promoted.

“Shortsighted? Maybe.

“Just let me enjoy it for five minutes.”

Jamie Swan

“Too drunk to think that was great.

“Who cares?

“Bish bash bosh!”

Scott:

“Poor match but 3 points.

“Mitro is so frustrating. I’m losing my faith in him, never mind Rafa!!

“But fantastic away record and one step closer.

“Some tough games to come and gotta get through them with some hard hard graft.”
