What are the chances of Newcastle United going up as Champions, or just simply getting automatic promotion by finishing Top Two?
Sky Sports have used their ‘Premier Predictor’ model to work out a percentage chance of these things happening.
Their predictor says that:
Newcastle ending the season where they are now, in top spot, is rated as a 52% chance.
As for the opposition: Brighton are given a 43% chance and the only other two to feature are Huddersfield (3%) and Reading (1%).
However, when it comes to simply ending up in the automatic promotions spots (top two), form team Huddersfield (15%) are given a far more viable chance of overtaking at least one of the current front pair.
However, Newcastle (88%) and Brighton (79%) are still rated by far the most likely to stay up there.
Of those teams behind, Reading are given a 12% chance of automatic promotion, then Leeds (4%) and Sheff Wed (2%).
The Sky Sports prediction system uses an algorithm to rank results, previous performances and the difficulty of upcoming fixtures – which has given this predicted end of campaign table.
As for Monday night’s match, their predictor gives Aston Villa only a 5% chance of winning the game, whilst Newcastle are rated a 75% possibility of getting all three points.
