The Rafa Benitez Bristol City Press Conference has taken place on Friday lunchtime.

The Newcastle Manager has confirmed that Dwight Gayle has had a series of tests on his hamstring and all the results have been positive.

Whilst Bristol City is set to be too early, the United boss says that they will monitor the striker’s progress, and he could even be back as early as Tuesday night for the trip to Brighton. This compares to the initial prediction of no return until after the international break, in April.

The striker isn’t training with the rest of the players and the United boss says that he will listen to what Dwight Gayle has to say himself, before throwing him back into the action after his comeback was curtailed against Aston Villa.

Here’s hoping.

More good news saw confirmation from the Manager that Rolando Aarons was now back training, though after his serious injury and long-term absence it will surely still be some time before the winger is in contention for the first team once again.

First quotes from the Rafa Benitez Bristol City Press Conference:

“Dwight is doing well, but we cannot say how long (he’ll be out for).

“To lose your top scorer is not ideal – you miss something. But when Mitrovic or Murphy have played, they have done really well.

“There are a lot of games and a lot of points to play for. We have to carry on.

“I am confident that the team is doing well and has the right mentality, and I hope they can show this on the pitch tomorrow.

“In these games it is not about how good you are on paper – it is about how good you are on the pitch.”
