Newcastle United set to beat post-war away record

Away wins are generally a rare prize over the years for Newcastle fans.

Considering the distances and lack of trophies down the years, the away support is phenomenal.

However, when you take into account so many seasons when away wins have been almost completely absent, you do have to accept that expecting to win isn’t the driving force when planning an away trip – if you are a Newcastle fan.

The post-war promotion seasons have though usually provided some relief from the norm, with this current campaign being no exception.

With 9 away trips remaining, Newcastle at the moment have 10 wins from 14 Championship games on the road.

This 2016/17 one will hopefully prove to be United’s sixth promotion from the second tier since the second world war and they now have the previous records in sight.

Rafa’s players have already surpassed the 1948, 1965 and 1984 teams when it comes to away wins and now they have the 2010 (12 away wins) and 1993 (13) in their sights.

With so many travelling this season to support the players, nice to think that the team will pick up at least another four away victories from the last nine to beat those two most recent promotion totals.
